“Yes, because it worked so well for me in Boston.”
He smiled. “Actually, it did.”
“You’re joking, right?”
“Now, you might’ve had a better plan,” he said, his lips twitching. “But you’ve got guts. No denying that. And you can think fast on your feet. How many people do you imagine have gotten that close to Holstrom?”
Just hearing his name made her shudder. “I only succeeded because of Neil and Sam, and most of all, you.”
Logan sighed. “I didn’t do you any favors by being a jerk.” He looked tired. “I’ve been figuring some stuff out, too. Some day, I’d like to tell you about why I left the military. But right now, all I want to do is kiss you.”
She was on him, literally on him, straddling his thighs, her dress riding up to her panties. All she cared about was that when their lips met, it felt better than any dream.
He put his arms around her and even though this wasn’t a first kiss, it felt like one. The secrets between them had vanished, leaving the getting to know each other part for tonight and hopefully a thousand tomorrows.
“God, I’ve missed you,” he murmured. They were both breathless. “I hope you missed me, too.”
With her forehead pressed to his, nodding was a little weird. “Like crazy,” she said.
He kissed her again. When it started getting too heavy to breathe, she pulled back. “My bedroom is really close.”
He nodded. “You’ll need to move, I think.”
It wasn’t easy. Not just parting, but getting off him with any grace at all. Seconds later, though, they were in her room, tossing off their clothes with abandon. He didn’t throw back the covers, and she didn’t care.
She hadn’t realized how hard he’d gotten, or how little she cared about foreplay.
“Condom?”
She nodded at her bedside drawer. Since he was now straddling her thighs, he reached in. That he pulled out her ribbed dildo first hardly made her blush because the next thing she knew he’d opened the packet and rolled the condom on.
The first thing he did was move between her thighs. But instead of sinking all the way inside her, he said, “This isn’t because your boss called me today about funding my company.”
“Good to know.”
“And it’s not just a fling. Not for me.”
“Even better,” she said, her smile matching her happiness inside.
“I know it’s early.” He kissed her lips softly, brushed the back of his hand across her cheek. “But I want this. I want you. Whatever it takes.”
“I want that, too,” she whispered.
“Good,” he said. “Now, if it’s all right, I’d like to make love to you.”
Not trusting her voice, she nodded, and lifted her hips to meet him halfway.
