“But I asked you, I told you that you reminded me of a girl from home. You could have told me then,” he says as he turns towards me on the couch.
“No I couldn’t. I remember overhearing a conversation you had with someone on how you thought Kenzie was hot.”
“Do you hear yourself right now?” Liam asks with a smirk.
“Yes, and I sound like an idiot,” I say as I shake my head and turn away from him.
“Don’t you think if I thought Kenzie was hot, that it would mean I thought you were hot too?”
“No, because I was her stupid shadow for so long.”
“Who is the girl that I talked to all the time? Who’s the girl I picked on when she came over to hang out with my idiot brother?” he asks as he touches my chin, moving my head so I have no choice but to look at him.
“Me,” I all but whisper.
“You’re right, it was you. I never picked on Kenzie like I did you. It was different with you because you are different Hails,” he says as he stares directly at me.
“Different isn’t always a good thing,” I say trying to look away.
“Pretty girl, yes it is. God, I had a stupid crush on you back in the day, but you were in love with my brother, now tell me how embarrassing that is?” he says laughing.
“WHAT?” I yell causing his laugh to end immediately.
“What’s wrong?” he asks worriedly.
“When was I in love with Brody? When did you have a crush on me?” I ask, stunned to hear his admission.
“You’ve always been in love with him and I think I was a junior maybe, I don’t know,” he says with a shrug.
“No I haven’t. I love Brody, don’t get me wrong, but I love him like a best friend, brother kind of love.”
“It’s cool. We were all actually surprised to see him end up with Kenzie instead of you.”
“There was a time that I thought about dating him, but then he started dating Kenzie; I was actually glad because he’s not who I really wanted.”
“Well that’s good, considering they are still together and she is your sister,” he says laughing, “but in all honesty, I’m sorry about messing shit up for you,” he states with an apologetic look.
“It’s fine. Things are pretty much normal now, so it’s fine.”
“No more lies?” he asks, looking hopeful.
“No more lies,” I agree with a smile.
“Are we good to be friends again?”
“We’ll always be friends, though your girlfriend may not be happy about that.”
“Meg? Oh no, that’s over.”
“What, since when?” I say surprised.
“Since the shit she pulled on you,” he states matter of fact.
“You don’t have to do that because of me.”
“I never should have considered living with her, so it’s for the best.”
“Well, I’m sorry anyway.”
“Don’t be, I’m glad I found out who she really was before things went further with her.”
“I have a question then.”
“What’s that?”
“Why did you sleep with me when you were with her?” I ask, looking at him for an answer
“I wasn’t with her,” he states looking directly at me.
“But when I ran into you two at home, you said you two were together for two years.”
“On and off for two years,” he admits.
“Oh.”
“What?”
“Nothing, I guess I’m just surprised I never met her before I joined the sorority.”
“I didn’t bring her home much.”
“Yeah, I kind of figured that.”
“Do you want to go to the party Quinn’s at or do you want to hang out here?” Liam asks changing the subject.
“Umm, it doesn’t really matter,” I say with a shrug.
“It’s up to you Haley.”
“We can hang out here then,” I say, enjoying the alone time I’m getting.
“Do you want something to drink now?” he asks with a smile.
“Sure,” I say feeling relaxed.
“Do you want beer, water, tea, or lemonade? I think that’s about all that’s here.”
“A beer is fine,” I say as he heads toward the kitchen. He comes back handing me my drink sitting down beside me on the couch.
“Want to watch a movie?”
“Okay.”
“A scary one?” he asks with an eager look.
“Sure,” I say excited.
He starts The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for us to watch. “Are you sure you can handle this?” he asks as he takes a seat.
“Yes,” I say, hoping I sound more convincing than I feel.
“I can put something else in.”
