One Chance (Part 1)(41)

By:T. Renee Fike.

“Liam, I said I was sorry.”

“And your sorry doesn’t mean shit.”

“So instead, you’re going to act like you don’t know me?”

“No, I’m going to ignore you because we aren’t friends anymore.”

“Seriously?”

“Yes, I’m serious. Of all the people in the world, I never thought you’d use me in a fucking bet Haley. So yeah, I’m pissed off,” he says angrily.

“You have every right to be mad and I’m sorry, I really am.”

“You can be sorry all you want; it doesn’t change a damn thing.”

“So you want me to what?”

“Leave me the hell alone. If you see me, walk in another direction and don’t ever come to my house for another fucking party.”

“You’re going to see me around, you’re dating Meg, I’m about to move into the sorority house.”

“Doesn’t mean I need to see or speak to you.”

“I’m sorry Liam, I really am,” I say feeling my eyes swell up with tears.

“You can save it Haley. I don’t want to hear it. Not now not ever,” he says before walking away.

Lovely. Do I tell him the truth that it wasn’t a bet? Absolutely not, he would probably hate me even more for knowing that.

For the next few weeks, I stay clear of Liam and his evil looks. He’s been helping Isaac with football before he heads back to school to start his practice sessions up. I only know that because Brody was talking to Kenzie about it. So at least, I won’t have to worry about running into him once he leaves to go back to campus.

“Let’s have a bonfire tonight,” I say hopeful to Brody and Kenz.

“Sounds good, why don’t we have it at my house. Dad’s already built a small fire pit,” Brody says excitedly.

“Works for me,” I say thrilled with this plan.

“That sounds like a great plan,” Kenz chimes in.

“Alright, well it’s starting to get dark now, so I’ll go over and start to set up it, just come over then,” Brody says before heading across the street.

“I think we have some stuff to make s’mores,” I say as I run inside to root through the cabinets.

“This is going to be fun,” Kenz says.

“Sure is.”

“So there’s something I need to ask you,” Kenzie says looking nervous.

“What’s up?” I ask as I continue to root for food.

“What’s going on with you and Liam?”

“Nothing.”

“Don’t lie to me.”

“I’m not, we had a disagreement and it is what it is.”

“Did he do something?”

“No, I did.”

“What did you do?”

“I really don’t want to talk about it, but it’s enough for him to not forgive me.”

“Haley there is nothing you could do that he won’t forgive you for,” she says determined she’s right.

“This time you’re wrong. Maybe in time he can forgive me, but time will tell.”

“We’ve been a part of each other’s lives since forever, he can’t just cut you out,” she says sounding pissed off.

“He just needs time to cool down. Please don’t say anything Kenz,” I beg.

“I won’t, but only because I don’t know exactly what happened. When you tell me, and you will tell me soon, then I will bitch him out.”

I can’t help but laugh, “If only you could Kenz, unfortunately I messed up and now I get to suffer the consequences.”

“Has he ever mentioned anything to you about your feelings for him?”

“What?” I shout.

“Hails its obvious you like him, you always have, we both did for years, but when I started dating Brody you focused a lot more energy on Liam.”

“No I didn’t.”

“The hell you didn’t. You’ve been in love with him for years. I’m just curious if he’s ever said anything about it?”

“No, because I’m not, and he wouldn’t think that because it wasn’t like that,” I defend.

“Who are you trying to convince, you or me?”

“Neither, it’s the truth.”

“You do know we’re twins right?” she says laughing.

“Yes smartass.”

“Haley, I know you better than anyone. I also know what I’ve seen for years now.”

“So what, yes I’ve had a crush, but that’s all it was.”

“A crush?” she asks laughing, “If that’s what you want to call it fine. We will leave it at that.”

“Good, let’s drop it and let’s go.”

“Where are you two going?” dad asks as he enters the kitchen.
