Kwame & Kyhanna(33)

By:Chante Amor

"So I'm already pregnant?" I asked in disbelief.

"Yes ma'am. Let me do a quick exam on you and then I'll write you a prescription for some prenatal vitamins."

"I can't believe I'm pregnant." If I wasn't sitting on the exam table I  would've passed out right in front of my new doctor. Now I finally knew  the true cause of my nausea and it had been exactly what Tameeka  thought.

"Well believe it Ms. Gregory. I can have blood work drawn on you to make  another confirmation but the fact of the matter is you're pregnant."

"Wow. This is unbelievable." My mouth dropped so low that I thought it  may get stuck on the ground. Tameeka had been right all along. I was the  one in denial. I couldn't wait to share the news with her. I knew she'd  only rub this shit in my face.

"Okay your exam was just fine. Everything looks good. If you'll stop out  by the front desk I'll have a few scripts for you. I'll see you in a  few weeks." He smiled and then left the room so that I could get  dressed.

I couldn't believe my doctor had just confirmed my ass was pregnant. I  pulled out my phone and called the first person I knew would lose it  once she found out.

"Tameeka, I'm just getting ready to leave the doctor's now. You were right."

"So you're pregnant? Are you're serious?"

"Yup. It's safe to say you jinxed me."

"Girl whatever! I'm so excited. What did Kwame say when you told him the news?"

"I didn't tell him yet. Once he picks me up I will tell him."

"I know he's gonna be happy too. Call me later."

"Okay sis." I said hanging up the phone and then I walked out of the  exam room. I walked down the hall and overheard the same girl that mean  mugged the hell out of me having a full blown conversation with her  nurse. When she turned her head and saw me coming toward her she started  talking louder than she had been.

"I can't wait to share this news with my boyfriend Kwame. He's gonna be  so excited." She exclaimed making sure I heard every word clearly. I  knew I heard her say my man's name and I knew I wasn't hearing things.  She immediately got my attention.

"Excuse me. I thought I heard you say my boyfriend's name Kwame."

"Yes I did say Kwame and I know you think he's your boyfriend sweetie  but he's my man." The girl replied confident that what she'd just  revealed was gospel.

"How are you with him when he's with me? And we live together."

"Shit, that don't mean anything. We're planning on moving in together  once the baby gets here. So whatever you think you two are doing is  gonna stop real soon."

"I swear you're crazy!"

"Oh I'm crazy? If I so crazy then ask your so called boyfriend about me.  My name is Selina by the way. He's very much aware of this baby and  plans on being right there with me. He's done with you just like I'm  done with this conversation." Selina tried to walk away from me but I  grabbed her arm preventing her from doing so,

"Bitch get your hands off me!"

"So you're claiming you're pregnant by my boyfriend but I've never heard  anything about you. I think you're lying about this whole thing."

"If I'm lying then how do I know Kwame got with you when while he was  with Charmaine and me. How do I know he felt sorry for you and that's  the only reason why you're living with him and he told his baby mom  Charmaine that he's gonna leave you and move forward with me. Don't make  me pull out my cell phone." Selina threatened. I had heard enough.

"Kwame would never do me like that."

"You're living in a dream world girl. You're over there believing that  you have some treasure in Kwame but he's playing you. We've been  together your whole entire relationship and we've never stopped being  together. We love each other." Selina pulled out her ringing cell phone  and answered it.

"Okay. I'm coming outside now Ma." Selina ended her call.

"If you'll excuse me. My ride is here."

I pulled out my cell phone and told Kwame that I was ready all the while  I could only think about is the bomb Selina had just dropped on me. My  eyes swelled up with tears as I thought about my entire relationship and  situation with Kwame and how it was all one big lie. I knew he had too  good to be true. This girl not only stood here and told me my business  but she revealed way more information than I had expected her to. The  problem is this truth about Kwame couldn't have come at a more horrible  time. When Kwame picked me up, I'd managed to stop crying but I had been  far from calm. He knew something was up with me.

"Babe, what's up? I can tell something is wrong with you. You haven't  said a word since you got in the car." I looked over at him and I wanted  to say something to him but my mouth wouldn't move. I turned my head  back and stared out the window. I knew my silence alarmed him but I felt  like that was the only thing I could do in this moment.

"Kyhanna, what's wrong? You're scaring me. Are you okay?"

"No I'm not okay Kwame. Who's Selina?" I asked.

"Where's this coming from?"

"Kwame, who's Selina?" I asked again.

"Selina is a chick from around the way that I used to kick it with. Why?"

"Hmph. According to her the description she has of you is waaaaaay more than that."

"What are you talking about? You talked to Selina?"

"So I walk into my appointment and she's there. I didn't know her but  she was staring me down the whole time and then when I was getting ready  to leave she was talking loud with someone in there about how she can't  wait to tell you things about the baby and when I heard your name I  confronted her. That's when she told me everything."

"Everything like what?"

"You and her have been together the whole time we've been together and you plan on leaving me once the baby is born."

"Kyhanna, I'm telling you Selina is crazy. I've never said anything close to that."

"Yeah I thought she was crazy too until she had a whole lot to say about me too. Selina said she's your girlfriend."

I grew relieved when he pulled up at home because I was ready to get out  of the car. I wanted to get as far away as I could from him. Of course  Kwame wasn't about to let that happen. He decided to pick up the  conversation as soon as we stepped inside the house.

"You don't believe her do you?"

"Honestly, I don't know what to believe right now. Hearing her telling  me the only reason why we are together is because you feel sorry for me  and you two have been dealing with each other the whole entire time  we've supposedly been together and that breaks my heart Kwame. And on  top of all this you got this chick pregnant? This is just too much to  deal with right now."

"Man, Kyhanna that baby ain't mine."

"Oh so you knew about her being pregnant? How do you know this baby  ain't yours? The only way you can say that for sure is if you didn't  sleep with her at all. So did you sleep with her or not Kwame?"

"Baby, come here." He urged me to come closer to him so that he could hold me but I didn't want shit but the truth.

"Answer the question Kwame." He paused and then started to come towards me.

"Yeah, we slept together but that was before you and I got together.  Bae, you have to believe me." He tried to reach out and touch me but I  jerked away from him.

"Don't touch me. Don't you fuckin' touch me Kwame! Since we first got  together you've been the only person that I could depend on. Hell, you  had me thinking that genuine love still exist in this world and to have  to find out from someone else what I thought we had was all a lie has  hurt me a lot. Kwame I love you with everything I have. I didn't even  know what love was until I met you and you go and do this to me?" I  asked as I looked down and noticed my shirt had been drenched in tears. I  wanted him to respond to me there remained a part of me that didn't  want to hear the truth out of fear that my heart couldn't take it.

"Kyhanna, you can't believe all that shit. Selina along with Charmaine  are two of the most miserable people in the world who will stop at  nothing to make sure my life is miserable too. You gotta believe that I  would never hurt you."

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

The loud knocking at the door caused our current conversation to halt so  Kwame could answer the door. When he opened the door, two police  officers stood on the porch dressed in full uniform.

"Hello sir. We are looking for Kwame Patterson."

"That's me." He answered.

"We have a warrant out for your arrest for failure to pay child support.  Please come with us." The one cop took out his silver handcuffs and  Kwame turned around so that he could snap them across his wrists.
