"This icing tastes yummy. Where did you get my cake from?"
"Classic Bakery. I got you a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting."
"My favorite also. What else did Tameeka tell you?"
"Uhhh … I plead the fifth."
"So we'll eat some cake later but for now it's time to get up. You need to take a shower and once you're done you'll be ready for your next surprise." Kwame winked. I couldn't believe he had a whole day of things planned for little old me. If my mother was around I'd be lucky if I got a cheap little box cake for my special day. Sometimes she didn't do anything.
I walked in the master bathroom and saw Strawberries and Champagne gift set from Victoria Secret waiting for me on the counter. I picked up the card that was attached to the package.
I figured my lady deserved her favorite scent on her special day. After you're finished come to the living room and I'll be waiting there for you.
I had to remind myself to call Tameeka later so I could tell her about her big mouth but right now I planned on enjoying my shower with my favorite scent. I grew excited as the warm shower jets hit my body. He already had done enough. If he didn't do anything else I would be fine with everything I've received so far. I couldn't even fathom what he would do next. I stepped out of the shower and dried myself off with the monogram towels he'd brought just for me.
When I hung the towels back in their respective places there was a silk knee length robe waiting for me. I wrapped my body in the luxurious fabric and then walked down the stairs where Kwame was sitting on the couch watching ESPN.
"I love how you follow directions. Now on to your next surprise. Close your eyes." I smiled, shook my head and then closed my eyes. He took me by the hand and led me up the stairs. He opened one of the bedroom doors and once we were inside he told me to open my eyes.
"Oh my God are you serious?" I asked as I looked around what used to be his guest room and now it appeared to be one huge closet.
"Yes. This is your brand new closet with all new clothes and shoes. I also threw in a few purses I thought you might like too."
I walked around the room taking a look at the custom shelving and the island in the center of the room he had added since I'd last seen the room. It didn't even look the same.
"When did you do all of this?"
"A few days ago. I had one of my good friends come and build this custom closet for you and I was so nervous because I thought you would come in here and figure out what was going on so I had him put a lock on the door. I'm glad you didn't walk in here before he finished."
"Kwame, this is beautiful."
"Not more beautiful than you. So you need to get dressed so you can go to the hair salon to get your hair and nails done and then we will be off to your next surprise."
"My next surprise? You mean there's more?"
"Yes. I told you today is all about you. Pick you out something and meet me in the car in twenty minutes."
"Okay baby."
The cream tufted ottoman that sat in the corner of the room contained a brand new Gucci bag. This room looked like it belonged to a celebrity. I couldn't believe it belonged to me. I looked over to my left and realized he'd purchased several different jogging suits for me. I settled on a black and white Nike sweat suit and a pair of black and white Huarache's. I grabbed my brand new purse and then met Kwame downstairs in fifteen minutes.
"Bae, you look amazing. I'm so glad everything fits."
"Everything fits perfect."
"Alright. On to the next part of your day."
I had been so grateful for all the things Kwame had done already. He literally had me wanting to jump out my seat at what he might do next. To think just a few short months ago I had to steal what I wanted and now stealing something never even crossed my mind. It's funny how I used to steal every chance I got but having Kwame in my life those thoughts never came to me.
Kwame dropped me off at the hair salon and they gave me the works. I got my hair, nails, and toes done. I'd even visited the lady who did waxing and got every inch of my body waxed. When it was time for him to pick me up, he ended up bringing me an all-black garment bag and shoe box into the salon. I couldn't even focus on what he brought me because of the all black suit he was currently sporting. My baby looked like he just stepped off of one of the pages of GQ magazine and everyone in the shop had their mouths hanging wide open.
"Hey babe, go and put this on. We gotta get moving so we can get to dinner."
"Baby, I love the suit you have on. Wow."
I went into the dressing room and hung the bag up on the clothing rack so I could unzip the bag. Once I opened the bag, I revealed a blush pink bandage dress and a pair of cork Christian Louboutin's in my correct size. I slipped on the dress and it fit like a glove. The shoes also fit like they were Cinderella's glass slippers and by the time I walked out of the dressing room and walked into the main part of the salon where everyone was Kwame had grown speechless. My romantic, soft curls fell to the middle of my back and the makeup that my hairstylist had given me afforded me with such a beautiful glow.
"You ready?"
"Of course."
Kwame grabbed my hand and we walked hand in hand out of the shop together.
"So where are we going?" I asked trying to get ahead of myself. He had done so many amazing things already there's no way that he could top this.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" He smiled and I knew there would be no way that he would tell me what he had in store next. I guess I would have to sit back and enjoy the ride. Kwame put on Kem's newest CD and started to drive. I held his hand and looked out the window not having the slightest clue where we were driving to.
After about twenty minutes, he pulled into the parking lot of a small airport on the outskirts of town.
"Kwame, what is going on?"
"Hold on. We're almost there." He drove his car around the back of the building and there was a private airplane waiting for us. The pilot came and opened my door and then led me down the red carpet that had been laid out. I walked up the steps to board a plane that had only been reserved for Kwame and I.
I couldn't believe he set a private plane ride up for us. I had never been on a plane in my entire life and now not only was I about to get on a plane but I was actually on a private one at that. The only planes I had previously seen were on television.
Once we both were on the plane Kwame took me by the hand and led me to where we would be sitting. The cream leather chairs were buttery smooth and I knew I'd have a struggle on my hands trying to stay awake if we ended up having a long flight.
"So what do you think baby? Surprised yet?" Kwame asked me. Since I found myself at such a loss for words I leaned over and planted my glossed up lips directly on his.
"This all feels like a dream baby. If you never did another thing for me it would be perfectly fine with me."
"And the crazy thing is we're still not done."
"Why all this for me? I've never had anyone do anything like this for me in my entire life." I had never experienced such a grand display like this for my birthday ever and now it felt as though the entire world were at my feet. For as long as I could remember I dreaded my birthday. To me it served as a constant reminder of all the things that I didn't have and just how different my life had been from the rest of my friends. For someone like Kwame to want to make my day this special produced such an overwhelming feeling inside me. I tried to hold back from crying but a lonely tear escaped down my face.
"You know why? Because even though you could have you have never asked me for anything and that makes me want to give you the world. And as long as there's breath in my body I'll do everything within my power to give it to you. I mean that to the death of me. Don't get too comfortable because we'll be landing soon." Kwame added.
My heart smiled as I looked over at the man who wanted nothing more than to make my sixteenth birthday a night to remember. I had always dreamed of having a sweet sixteen party but in my opinion this was so much better than a party. I felt like I were living the life of a princess.
"We are preparing to land." The pilot announced as he lowered our plane onto the landing strip. Once the pilot landed our plane there was a white stretched Cadillac Escalade Limo waiting for us.
"I swear this is the most epic night of my life." I confessed.
