Kwame & Kyhanna(22)

"Damn nigga who blowing you up like that?"

"Man, it's Selina's ass."

"You still talking to her too? Damn bro. You love these crazy broads.  Selina fine as fuck but she has been with everyone we know."

"Naw. Not anymore. I'm done with her too. Told y'all I'm rockin' with Kyhanna now."

"So you cuttin' everybody off bro? I know you and you always keep at least one bad one on the side."

"Not anymore. I'm cutting everybody off but her."

"Whoa. Shorty must be one hell of a chick for you to pull a move like this."

"She is … you'll see. I'll bring her through so you two can meet her."

"Alright bet. You better take her to meet mom too. You know how she is about things like this."

"You right Khamani. I'm gonna make sure I holla at mom."

When I left my brother' house, Selina called me again. I was annoyed to  say the least but since I was in the car alone I decided to answer her  call. It didn't matter. I was still annoyed as fuck.

"What up Selina." I said hoping she would get the hint and get straight to the point.

"What's wrong with you? You sound like you have an attitude."

"I wouldn't have an attitude if you didn't call me so damn much. What's  up?" I wasn't in the mood for this back and forth bullshit.

"I've been calling you because I know you and Charmaine broke up and I  wanted to talk with you about us … there's something I have to talk to you  about."

"Listen I had a feeling that once Charmaine was out of the picture we  were going to have this conversation so I'm just gonna nip this in the  bud now. We just broke up and I am not ready to talk with anyone else  right now. I need to be alone. Even what you and I was doing needs to  change. I need some space and alone time."

"You need space? Even from me? I thought once Charmaine and you were  through then it was gonna be me and you. You always said that."

"I know what I said but thing can always change. And I really don't owe you an explanation Selina. I need time to myself."

"But Kwame we need to talk. You can't just throw away what we have. I  thought what we had was special … I thought." I didn't even give her a  chance to say anything else. I interrupted her.

"Selina, this is not up for debate. I gotta go." I hung up without  waiting for a response. I know Selina wasn't trying to hear anything I  had to say but the truth hurts sometimes. I wasn't trying to hold on to  anyone I didn't need. Having Kyhanna in my life made me realize that I  didn't need any other female but her. I didn't need Charmaine, Selina or  any other chick.

Kyhanna was that type of chick that you switched your whole lifestyle up  for. Selina wanting to talk to me didn't faze me because she would say  anything just to get in my presence again. I knew the only thing she  wanted was to plead her case why her side chick position should be  upgraded to the main chick position. I had actually never intended on  making her my lady. That had been all her idea. It had been no secret  that Selina was community pussy and had the reputation of giving it to  whoever was paying her ass some attention. What we had was sex and  nothing more. She was cool as they came but I never looked at her as  relationship material. True she had been the one I ran to when Charmaine  and I were together but I never had intentions on making her mine.  That's how I got into most of my situations because females lived in a  fairytale and made things to be something that they were clearly not.  When I finally washed my hands of a situation then I was labeled as the  bad guy. I shouldn't be accused of being anything but being honest.

I hadn't heard or seen from Charmaine since she came over my house  unannounced. I tried calling her and sending messages and she didn't  respond at all. It had been at least two weeks since I'd seen my son and  I missed him like crazy. I was used to seeing him every day and I felt  so empty without seeing his little face.

My phone rang interrupting my thoughts.

"Hey baby." I smiled when I heard Khyanna's voice on the other line.

"Hey boo. What you up to?" I asked her switching our conversation to the Bluetooth connection in my car.

"Nothing much. Just was thinking about you and wanted to know when you were coming home because I wanted to cook you dinner."

"Seriously?" I asked. Every day we spent together got better and better.  We hadn't even had sex yet and I started to feel myself falling for  her.

"Yes, but you'll have to come home and see what I'm cooking up for you."

"In that case I'll be home asap."

"Okay babe. See you soon." Kyhanna said as she hung up. For her to be so  young, shorty could burn in the kitchen. The last time she cooked she  made burgers and hand cut fries and it tasted like it came straight out  of a restaurant. Kyhanna could cook so good that I told her that she  should operate her own restaurant and I planned on making that happen  once I sent her to culinary school.

My attention diverted to Charmaine's Dodge Charger that was in the lane  next to me but two cars up. I couldn't believe I finally ran into her  and luckily she was in there alone but I did see my son in the back in  his booster seat. I decided I was going to follow her because I wanted  to see where she was laying her head at night. I knew she wasn't staying  with her mother. That had been the initial reason why she had  practically forced her way into living with me and by the time I wanted  to kick her out she was already pregnant so I knew she didn't run back  to the place she'd ran from. I had already checked her best friend  K'seana and she hadn't been staying there.

I don't know why but I knew there had to be some nigga lurking somewhere  in the shadows picking up the pieces of her life because Charmaine was  the type of woman who couldn't survive without one. I turned my music  and sound system off since its distinctive sound would alert her to my  presence. I didn't want her to know that I was around at all. I made  sure I lagged a few cars behind. I observed as she weaved in and out of  traffic and then turned onto a random street I wasn't familiar with. I  still trailed behind her so she wouldn't suspect anything. When she  finally pulled into a driveway of a house that I'd never seen before, I  typed the address into my phone notes. I figured I would use it later  on. It would only be a matter of time before I saw my son again and this  address would be just the leverage I needed to make sure that happened.

Selina

Chapter 9

"Selina! Selina! Wake up!" My sister Julissa called out to me through my  thin bedroom door. I heard her clearly but I just didn't want to  respond. It had been a few days since I last talked to Kwame and it  literally felt like my world was falling apart.

It felt like maybe if I had been quiet and didn't respond then she would  take her little annoying ass elsewhere but my sister was one lil  persistent chick and I knew she wouldn't give up that easy.

Just when I thought the knocking was over, Julissa started up again and this time she was even louder than before.

"Selina, open up. I know you're in there. Let me in!" She whined.

Bang …

Bang, bang …

(Pause)

Bang, bang, bang, bang …

Even in the midst of my so called depression, I had to laugh at  Julissa's persistence. She wasn't giving up this time. All the other  times she came knocking at my door she wound up giving up when I didn't  respond but this time she seemed desperate. Julissa wasn't about to move  from my door until I let her in so I got out of my bed and unlocked my  door. I wasn't even back in my bed all the way before my little sister  barged into my room.

"Selina what's going on with you? Why won't you come out of your room?"  She asked and then slid in bed with me. I swear my sister was a  miniature version of my mother always concerned trying to make sure if I  was okay.

"I'm sad. I can't really explain it."

"Are you sad about some guy?"

"Maybe."

"Kwame?" Julissa's question caused me to raise my eyebrows at the fact that she knew anything at all.

"How did you know?"

"I know that Kwame is your boyfriend sis. I see him when he pulls up to  the house while mommy is at work and I hear you on the phone talking to  your friends about him. Did you two break up?"

"Kind of."

"Aww sis well don't be sad. I'm pretty sure he'll come back and want to get back together."

"You think so?" I asked.

"Yes I think so. Cheer up sis." Julissa smiled at me immediately turning my frown upside down.

"Thanks Julissa. I promise I'll get up soon." I assured her.
