Kwame & Kyhanna(14)

I didn't want to spend the entire dance turned away from him so I spun  around and started working it from the front. We were dancing so close  that there was barely even any space between us. I was feeling Kwame so  much and was so glad I pulled him out on the dance floor for the dance  he wanted. Usually I wouldn't have been so bold but I just couldn't help  it. I was too focused on him to even realize a female had rolled up on  us and started going off.

"Yo, who the fuck is this bitch Kwame?" The female asked as she pointed in his face.

"Charmaine, what the hell are you doing here?"

"Naw, I asked you a fucking question. Who is this bitch Kwame? So you  went through hell and high water to keep my ass at home so you can be  hugged up on this bitch? Umm why you're staring at me your eyes are not  failing you. I am his girlfriend." This girl said as she tried to  approach me but Kwame held his arms out and held her back. My girl  Tameeka was right by my side tugging at my arm.

"Look I already called Ahmad. Let's go. Ain't nobody fucking ‘round with  Charmaine tonight. That bitch is crazy as a bed bug. Come on."

Tameeka ushered me through the party and then in two minutes flat we  were outside of the party and Ahmad said he was right around the corner.

"Girl, so that's his baby momma?"

"Yes girl. His crazy, deranged baby momma. If I had to say something  negative about Kwame it would be that crazy baby mother of his."

"Do you think they're still together? She was saying she was his girlfriend."

"As far as I know they're not together like that but let Charmaine's  delusional ass tell it and she will have you thinking that they going to  the justice and peace tomorrow."

"Wow. I definitely wasn't expecting that but regardless I still got my dance."

"Kyhanna you did that. Ol' boy was feeling yo ass heavy. I won't be  surprised if he start chasing you now. I can tell he likes you for  real."

"I guess that's cute but I just don't know about that situation he got in there."

"If I was you I wouldn't even worry about it."

"I'm gonna try not to. A part of me don't want to get involved with him though."

"I feel you but just see how everything plays out. You never know what can happen."

Ahmad pulled up in front of Marquis house and we hopped in his ride and was ghost before anyone else came out of the party.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket thinking the message I had just  received was from Kwame but in turn it was from the thorn in my side.

Kyhanna if that's the nigga you wanna choose then so be it but tonight  was just a little preview of what type of nigga you dealing with.

I immediately hit him back with, Do me a favor and lose my number.

When Ahmad came closer to the townhouse where I lived with my mom and  little brother I was surprised to see there wasn't any lights on which  was unusual because at this time in the evening all the lights were on  and I would either hear my mother blasting her music or see my little  brother sitting outside on our stoop talking with his friends about a  whole bunch of nothing but there was none of that. I walked up the short  walk way and up the steps to the front door. I went to use my key to  unlock the door but when I grabbed the handle to insert my house key,  the door slid open.

"Ma, Tahj … where y'all at?" I called out as I flicked on the light in the  living room. The living room looked like a tornado hit it. There was  shit thrown around everywhere as if someone had ransacked the place. The  smell of cigarette smoke was potent in the air. It had been so strong I  knew my mother literally smoked her entire pack of Newports. I knew  there was more to what was stressing her than she had told me. Usually,  she would stress over not having enough money to cover the minimal bills  we had but something in the air felt different. Something felt super  strange and I couldn't quite put my finger on it but I knew something  had been off. I called their names again only to be met with the same  exact silence. As I walked around from room to room it had been apparent  that the entire house had been ran through and our things just thrown  around wherever the intruders saw fit. I couldn't believe that someone  had run up in our house while we were gone. My only question was if  someone had broken in our townhouse then where the hell was my mom and  Tahj at?

I walked up the steps and to the right where my room was and to my  surprise my room had remained untouched. I don't blame them. I wouldn't  want the shit that I had in my room except for my clothes. I had stolen  enough clothes to house a small clothing boutique and I always stayed  fly even if I had to take everything I had on my back. I walked to my  closet and opened it to reveal my clothes still were in there hung up  neatly on hangers. I found that to be strange because anyone with good  taste would be able to take the clothes that were in my closet and sell  them for money and the way our house was trashed it probably was a dope  fiend move to score some fast cash. I'm sad to admit it but it happened a  few times and some of my mother's no good friends were actually the  culprits behind such foolishness.

I decided to go to Tahj's room and see the damage they had done and his  room was a complete wreck. His clothes were gone. There were hangers  scattered all over the floor. His toys were thrown everywhere. Going to  my mother's room revealed the same type of scenario. I grew so confused  as I walked around the empty house trying to piece what was going on  together. I walked in the kitchen and found a white piece of notebook  paper that seemed to have my mother's hand writing on it. I picked it up  and it had actually been addressed to me.

Kyhanna,

There's no easy way to say this shit but I just have to tell you anyway.  The situation I'm in is fucked up to say the least. I owe Zeke a lot of  money and my options are to pay up or be killed and since I don't have  the money and I don't want to die then my ass needs to get gone and  disappear and that's what your brother and I are doing … we are  disappearing. I'm sending your brother to stay with Aunt Maxine in  Chicago and I'm going somewhere where no one will know my name and I can  start over. I need to totally disappear. I know this is so fucked up  but I have thought long and hard about this and this seems to be the  only solution to this problem. I tried to wait until you got out of  school but since you didn't come home a bitch had to do what a bitch had  to do. As far as you're concerned I hope you understand why I had to  leave you behind but you're a smart girl and I know that you'll be able  to hold your own out here. I know you'll be able to use that brain of  yours to figure something out. You remind me so much of your older  brother so I know you'll be straight.

If we never speak again know that I love you and I'm sorry.

"What the fuck? Are you kidding me?" I screamed out as I balled up the  piece of paper and stuffed it inside my pocket. So my mother had just  disappeared into thin air with my little brother without any regard for  me. I was so pissed after I read that letter that I didn't know what to  do or how to feel. My mother had always put me in the most compromising  situations.

At that point whatever wasn't already torn up I ended up tearing up  myself. I flipped the kitchen table and threw whatever I could to  express my emotions in that moment. I didn't have a true fucking mother  because if I did she wouldn't do me like this. When I came to my senses  my eyes were bloodshot red from my continual tears and I was breathing  like I had just ran a mile around the neighborhood.

Since my mother was on the run from Zeke then that meant I definitely  couldn't stay there. Zeke was the type of nigga that would completely  interrupt your life until you paid him what you owed him. He would stop  at nothing to collect his money. I definitely didn't want any problems  with his diabolical ass so I jogged up my steps and pulled my duffel bag  out of my closet.

I stuffed whatever clothes I could fit inside my bag, grabbed a couple  pair of shoes and was out of the house in fifteen minutes. I draped the  strap of my duffel bag across my chest and started walking. The messed  up part about it was I didn't have a clue as to where in the hell I was  going but I continued to walk anyway. I called Tameeka to see if I could  crash at her crib for the night and her and Ahmad ended up coming back  to my house to pick me up.

"Shit." I exclaimed loudly as I took one last look at our townhouse. I  knew once I left our house that I would never be coming back. It  wouldn't take long for people in our apartment complex to realize that  we didn't live there anymore and come in and help themselves to all our  things. With Zeke combing around town for my mother there was no way in  hell that I would be caught living here when he knew where we lived and  wouldn't hesitate to show up again.
