Kane's Mate(42)

By:Hazel Gower

Kane winced. God, she looked like a cute pixie but swore worse than a trucker. Kane knew he looked like shit. He hadn’t slept in a week. He lifted up his arms and winced. Okay, so he should have showered before he came, properly shaved too based on the comment about him looking like sasquatch.

A minute later the door opened and his breath caught. Faith got more beautiful every time he saw her. She stood in the doorway, wearing a simple yellow sun dress, the pixie behind her. He could tell Faith didn’t have on a bra, because as soon as she saw him her nipples hardened. He smiled as the pixie said, “Oh my God, Faith, what is it?”

Faith rolled her eyes. “Remy, you know who it is, don’t be mean. Go show Bengie your garden, put him to work. I need to talk to Kane.”

The pixie glared at him. “Don’t hurt her or I’ll kick your arse again.”

He held back the chuckle and he nodded as she walked away.

“I was an idiot. I was so scared to lose you I pushed you away,” he told Faith, “but I’ve loved you from the first moment I saw your chubby, dirty, little face. The princess who told me I would be her prince. You terrified me when I saw you in that Rapunzel outfit, because I knew then that I was in trouble. As you got older you got more beautiful, and not just on the outside, it shone from the inside out. It was getting harder to stay away from you, then when you came home I couldn’t resist you anymore. I should have given you time, not just thrown you back into it all. But from the moment I saw you I’ve been scared of what you are and mean to me. Please, Faith, I love you. I can’t live without you anymore. If that makes me selfish, then I’m selfish.” He took her into his arms. He felt her tears against him, then she pushed at his chest and ran inside.

Following her, he found her vomiting into the toilet. “Princess, you okay?”

She made a lame attempt to bat him away. “Lock the door and get into the shower, Kane. Please, you stink.”

She got up, brushed her teeth, and rinsed her mouth with mouthwash as she watched him in the shower. He got out and grabbed a towel that barely covered him, Faith watching him the whole time. Her eyes kept flicking back to his new tattoo.

“We both made mistakes, Kane. I’ve decided I want to help. I want to be me, Faith, the weird psychic woman. The woman who gets feelings, who sees things. I am going to be a woman who is going to help protect the world.” She looked into his eyes. “Our son and future children will be proud of their mother. We are going to stop Armageddon. When we go back home there are going to be some changes, whether you like it or not. Our major concern should be finding those women the demons have.”

She came to him, and he sighed, breathing in her scent, feeling whole again. “I have resigned from the hospital, so I can help out more. I’ll feel better if I can watch your back. And I know Dad could use the help. I was really hard on him when you got hurt.”

She looked up at him. “I love you so much, Kane. I just want you to be happy, but next time we fight—and there’s no point denying it, you drive me too crazy for us to be in harmony all the time—can you not take up the caveman look? Because right now you’re giving the movie hairy werewolves a run for their money.”

Kane gave a mock growl, nipping her shoulder. Faith laughed and he beamed, loving the sound. He picked her up, kissing her. “I’m the happiest when I’m with you.”

She reached down to pull the towel off him, and he wiggled his hips to loosen it, helping her. Kane grinned as she lifted her dress over her head. She had nothing on underneath, and he growled, capturing her mouth. “Fuck, you’re gorgeous.”

She smiled, muttering against his lips, “God, I missed you so much. I’ve been so cold without my heater.”

He chuckled. “It’s good to know I’m needed.”

“I do love you, Kane, but I will still want to have a weekend where I can be a normal twenty-year-old, like go to a concert or have a girls’ night out on the town, but I’m sure you can survive for one or two nights a month without me.”

She smiled, and he kissed her, making sure to put all his love, loneliness, passion, and wanting into the kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck, moving her fingers up to his hair, running them through. She whispered in his ear, “I love your new tat. You’re lucky I love you, because you now have my name branded on you forever.” She kissed his chest where her name was written.

Kane growled, moving her so she sat on the bathroom counter. She arched back onto the mirror as he sucked and nipped his way around her neck.

Faith knew she was crying. She had missed Kane so much. Now that she had him back she knew she couldn’t be without him again. Her heart, mind, and body craved him. All he had to do was touch her and a fire started in her veins. Her head fell back on the bathroom mirror as he sucked and nipped at her neck. She loved his mouth.
