Just a Number(113)

By:A.D. Ryan

“And I love you,” I reply softly, my heart skipping a beat. “And once everyone knows that, then we’ll be able to move on with our relationship. Nothing will hold us back anymore.”

And so the plan is set. Tonight, we will talk to my dad and see what he has to say. After that, we come out to Gretchen as a couple. I secretly hope that she says or does something that would warrant my punching her, but I won’t hold my breath. All that matters is that Owen and I are able to move on to the next phase in our relationship without fear of how our family and friends might perceive it. We’ve already established that age is just a number, so what else do we have to worry about?

29. Confessions

My head is still in the clouds as Amelia and I exit my office, the memory of our torrid tryst still fogging my brain. Heat flares up in my veins again as I remember how her lips felt around my length, or the way her piercing eyes held mine while her head moved rhythmically in my lap. Even though her mouth felt truly amazing, my thoughts had quickly shifted to fantasies of me bending her over my desk and fucking her so hard and fast that the rest of the office would know what we were up to.

Initially, I welcomed the distraction that Amelia had offered upon arriving in my office. Not only did Alan’s impending visit that evening have me feeling quite stressed, but several contracts at work were threatening to blow up in my face. It was as though I was pre-destined to have everything go wrong.

But Amelia made me forget, as she so often does. She just has this way of making me relax enough to forget all the bad and focus on how great it can be.

Neither of us expected Gretchen to show up when she did, and the longer she stayed in my office and fought with me, the more my blood boiled. There were several instances where I had half a mind to pull Amelia from beneath the desk and throw our relationship in Gretchen’s face, but I didn’t want it to compromise the divorce agreement, nor did I want to use Amelia like that. While I didn’t really think Gretchen knowing about my new relationship would hold any bearing on the divorce, it was a risk I probably shouldn’t take. This would be over soon; Stephen was positive that we could force her to sign if she continued to procrastinate.

The second the door closed behind Gretchen, every emotion I had been feeling previously erupted like a volcano that had been dormant for years. My happiness, my arousal, my irritation, and my need for retribution all collided as I pulled Amelia from beneath my desk. It didn’t take long for me to harden again as Amelia moaned and whimpered. This wasn’t the first time I’d let my irritation for Gretchen stoke the fire of our passion, and Amelia seemed to revel in it again as I turned her around and bent her over my desk before thrusting into her.

Our lovemaking was urgent, and I placed my hand over her mouth to cover her cries. While I’d originally imagined the entire office being aware of what might have been going on in my office, I wasn’t quite ready for it in reality. Not that I believed we were being entirely covert; chances were they knew anyway.

Once we manage to catch our breath, Amelia stands up and circles my desk to retrieve her coat off of one of the chairs. Her skin is pink with a faint blush, and she appears to be glowing. She’s always a vision after I’ve made her come.

We say goodnight to my assistant before stepping into the elevator. I’m still a little anxious about Alan’s visit, but Amelia’s mission to distract and relax me has been a success for the most part. Neither of us know what he’s going to say, but I want to remain cautiously optimistic. We’ve been friends far too long to let this get between us. I’ve only ever wished for his happiness, and I truly hope he’s wanted the same for me all these years—even if his daughter is the one that makes me happy.

The air outside is heavy with the threat of rain as we step out onto the sidewalk and head to where I parked this morning. With a smile, Amelia loops her arm through mine and falls into step with me as she rests her head on my shoulder.

Naturally, our day wouldn’t be complete without one more complication, and we don’t make it very far.

“I fucking knew it.”

Amelia and I stop walking and slowly turn to find Gretchen standing behind us. Her arms are crossed tightly across her chest, and her eyebrows are pulled together in rage.

It may not have been how we wanted her to find out—let alone when—but Amelia and I maintain our composure surprisingly well. Amelia stands tall at my side, seemingly unintimidated by Gretchen’s increasing rage.

My ex takes a step forward, her icy eyes locking on Amelia. “Little tip?” she sneers. “Next time you decide to partake in an illicit office rendezvous, I suggest you don’t leave your fucking jacket draped over the chair for just anyone to see, you little sl—”
