His Virgin Mate(29)

By:Grace Goodwin

No. I wouldn’t be the only one aching and desperate until we saw each other again.

Chapter Eleven

Lexi

“You are playing with your food.” Dani grinned at me, and the knowing look behind her eyes made me blush. “What’s the matter? Did having too many orgasms last night ruin your appetite?”

“Dani!” Heat flooded my face and I titled my head, giving her the evil eye where she sat across from me at the small table. The square table had four chairs around it, just like a diner back home, but only three of the seats were taken.

“Don’t try to deny it, Lex. We both saw you when he brought you home last night.” Katie sipped at a glass of some strange green fruit juice that taste like a bizarre cross between bananas and watermelon. Good, but weird. “And he’s already giving you jewelry.” Katie deliberately dropped her gaze to the crystal shard around my neck. Bryn, Von’s friend, and it seemed Katie’s mate—that was a whole other story—had delivered it to our suite as we were leaving for breakfast. Apparently, he and Von and the rest of them had been called out on some kind of mission or something and would be gone all day. I couldn’t see Von until tonight, which made me both disappointed and giddy, because I would see him tonight. See him, and let him slide his big cock into my…

“How many orgasms was it, anyway? I need a number, a goal for my mate, if he ever decides to show up.” Dani talked with her fork, and several heads turned at the table nearest us, the three Earth girls sitting there all burst into laughter.

“Could you two talk any louder?” Seriously. I was going to strangle them both.

Katie grinned, but shut up. Dani, however, laughed. “We’re just jealous. Believe me. I’d love to have a man who could make me look like that much of a hot mess.”

I smiled and sipped my own juice. The breakfast food was interesting, but didn’t taste like home. There was a strange meat that looked like ham but tasted like chicken. The fluffy white stuff that I assumed was some kind of egg was close, but with an odd tang. And the vegetables had been cut into cubes that looked like potatoes but tasted more like turnips. My culinary mind was at war with both my taste buds and my eyes. I would give just about anything to get into that kitchen and taste everything, every meat and vegetable and spice. I could make something great, I just knew it.

We ate in companionable silence for a few minutes until a shadow fell over my chair.

“Miss Lopez. May I join you?” Cosmo’s deep rumble made every hair on my body stand on end but before I could formulate a polite response, he’d already pulled back the empty chair and sat down beside me. “How are you, Alexa? Or should I call you Lexi, like Von does?”

The main area of the restaurant was much brighter and livelier than the private rooms upstairs. If we hadn’t been in a room surrounded by a ton of people, I would have been freaking the fuck out. As it was, I placed both hands on my lap and cleared my throat as Dani and Katie both stared at our uninvited guest with round, shocked eyes. “I’m great, thanks. And Miss Lopez is fine.”

I didn’t want him calling me Lexi. That was for friends. And Von, who said my name like it was candy on his tongue, not poison.

“I hear you and Von had a wonderful time after your meal last night.” He leaned forward until his lips were inches away from my ear. He raised his hand to wrap it around my arm, just above my elbow. “Did you enjoy the taste of his cock? Was his tongue on your clit enough to win you over? Or do you require more—” Cosmo’s other hand came to rest on my thigh, “—direct stimulation?”

I shot to my feet, twisting my arm out of his grip. “Get away from me. Asshole!”

Cosmo lifted his hands up by his head with his palms open and stood, backing away from me with a mocking bow. “I’ll see you again later, Lexi. Make sure to tell Von I said hello.”

If I could have started his body on fire with my glare, I would have. What kind of demented game was he playing? And why did I get the feeling it had absolutely nothing to do with me, and everything to do with some past history between Cosmo and my mate?

“What an asshole.” Dani’s soft voice brought me back to the present and I rubbed at my arm absently. It ached a little, but nothing worth crying over.

Katie grabbed my hand when I sat back down. “I don’t think you should tell Von.”

That got my attention. “Why not?”

Dani and Katie shared a look and I shoved my plate away as I waited for their answer. I had no appetite now. None.

It was Dani who answered, her small, lithe frame a comedy of tragic proportions when compared with the fire in her eyes. “That guy hates your mate.”
