Cooper leaned back in the chair and then took a slug of beer. “I, for one, missed this shit, so you know I’m in.”

“Count me in, too. This civilian life stuff gets lame. It’s been a while since I’ve had people wanting to shoot my fucking head off,” Don said. Cooper chuckled.

“No one lasted long once they did threaten us. You basically blew them up,” Cooper said, and this time, Don chuckled.

“They were bad terrorist assholes who hated us, our country, and everything an American soldier stands for. Fuck them,” Don replied.

“Great, now you have these two thinking they’re going back into battle against terrorists. This is major shit. We could go to jail,” Cody said to Jeremy.

“Only if I’m wrong,” Jeremy replied, holding his ground.

Cody exhaled and then ran his fingers through his hair.

“Fuck it. If Jack Banks, your supervisor, a man you and other federal agents are supposed to trust, is aiding these asshole murderers who are after this woman and you, then we’ll prove it and bring them down. Tell us what you need, Jeremy.”

Jeremy nodded and then looked at his brothers.

“It’s going to be tricky, but from what I have thus far, all fingers are pointing to an inside informant. The raid should have been successful. I wasn’t there, as I was helping to get Sophia to safety, but somewhere between my call into headquarters and the actual raid, Mateo was tipped off. Deavan very well could have been the main person with the connection to the rat. After all, Mateo hinted about keeping me close to where Sophia was instead of being at the meeting with Scaggs. He also said Deavan met with Scaggs, too.”

“Yeah, well, this guy Scaggs is still a free man, despite your boss there, Banks, using all the evidence and proof gathered to arrest him and put him in jail. What happened to all of that?” Cody asked.

“Banks said the higher-ups were after a bigger fish. That’s when he hinted about stopping the search for Mateo and Deavan. It was like he was pushing it so that the case would be closed. Meanwhile, my identity is blown, and Sophia is left alone with no resources.”

“And you didn’t tell Banks or anyone else about Sophia’s location?” Cooper asked.

“Only two agents were with me and since then have been transferred from the case. They seemed like good men, but I would think, if they weren’t, then Sophia would have been found and taken by now.”

“Well, we have our work cut out for us. Should I start with my connections and see if I can get more on this Mateo and Deavan and any close friends or associates who may have helped them to escape?” Cody asked.

“That would be great. Here’s a file of some names that popped up on old phone records. I was able to decode the numbers and then had some associates in the agency find out who the numbers belonged to, but before more could be accomplished, the case got the axe.” He handed the envelope to Cody.

“Okay. It’s a great start.”

“And us?” Don asked.

“I need your special skills. That means eyes and ears on Banks, his office, his home, personal cell, his mistresses, everything.”

Cooper smiled and rubbed his hands together. “You got it, bro. Let’s catch ourselves some scumbag dirty agents.”
