Grady (The McCade Dragon #3)(16)

"I heard about that. Dreadful girl. She needs to be whipped." Harper smiled. She loved this woman already. "I'm to tell you two things. First, however, you are so lovely, and Grady was right, you are glowing with your baby. But the two things. Jorden and Jasmine, my son and his wife, will be around today to see you-"

"Jorden McCade?" She nodded. "You're Jorden McCade's mother? The famous guy who paints? You're related to him? And he's...are you kidding me? You're related to Jorden McCade?"

"Yes. He's my son. You know his work?" Harper was having a very bad fangirl moment, but managed to nod. "Would you like to meet him?"

"Yes. When?" Aisha told her he was in the kitchen now. "Here? In this kitchen? Well hell, what are we waiting for? Jorden McCade is in the house, and I'm going to meet him."

Chapter 3

Grady was having a hard time not laughing at his brother. Jorden, he knew, was famous, but it was funny watching him deal with Harper. Grady wasn't sure who was more impressed, nor which of them was doing better at not fawning all over the other. Both of them seemed to be great fans of the other's work. He cleared his throat when he noticed the time.

"I have to get to work. I'm sorry, but I really do need to get the product on the shelves or I won't be opening on time." Jorden said they were there to help out. "Good. I can use it. Gavin said he'd come by as well when he was finished with his homework."

"If you guys don't mind, I'll take Harper to see Kenton. He's sort of cleared his morning to have her checked out." Grady wanted to be there with her, but Jasmine told him that this first time, it should be only the two of them. "That way if there are any problems, which I'm doubting there are, you won't freak out."

"I do not freak out." Jorden pointed out the truck and the over ordering. Then he explained what had happened to Harper. "That wasn't my fault. I have too much inventory and the bill is too low."

"It's yours." They all turned to Harper. "I mean, it could be different in Ohio, but if the inventory sheet said what you were to get and the prices that you were quoted, then it's yours at that price. Especially if you called them."

"Several times. So did the driver. They told us both that they don't makes mistakes." Harper nodded. "I'm having the family attorney look into that and some other things. I don't think this is a scam, but you never know."

After Harper left with Emma and Jasmine, Jorden sat down with him. Grady really wanted to get to the shop, but he had a feeling that Jorden wanted something. When he sat down with his brother, Jorden handed him a thick envelope. Grady asked him what it was, not opening it as yet.

"You remember when I told you some time back about the inventory in the houses?" He nodded. "Okay, well, once all of you told us what you wanted to get rid of, we put it in the shop. Jasmine kept track of all the pieces, and when she sold them off, put the money for them aside. To give to the person who owned it. This is your part of the sales."

"I don't want this." Jorden said he figured he'd say that. "No, I'm serious. Emma sold me this house cheap, and Jasmine did me a huge favor by taking the stuff rather than giving it to the dump. The only way I was able to afford something this nice is because of the two of them. If that's money, which I'm assuming it is, then you tell her to use it for evil or something."

"I have an idea on what to use it for. So you know, the others turned down the money as well. But I had to tell you about it, you know that?" Grady said he did. "What if we take this money-and I will admit, it's a lot more than I thought it would be-but what if we used the money toward the shelter that Emma was talking about? You know, the place they can come in and take a shower or get a hot meal. Not a place to sleep yet. That requires a great deal more in the way of regulations than I know how to get around right now, and Douglas has his hands full with the other things we have going. So for now, I'd like to use it to hire more people to get everything done."

"You mean just use it to get the building up to code? How would that work exactly? I mean, that's a lot of money going in without any return. Not that I care one way or the other, but it won't sustain itself for long if we don't have some sort of payback, right?" Jorden nodded and handed him a sheet of paper. It had been handwritten for the most part, things marked out and others added in different handwriting. "The others are onboard with this? I like some of these ideas; others.... Well, I know that this is just the beginning, but there are a couple on here that I think we can do right now. Such as getting the hot water turned on, as well as towels."
