Frailty: The Darkshine(20)
He heard her heart take on a different beat, a beat that showed how excited she was—a beat that showed her desire. He wanted nothing more than to break the door down and take her right there, claim her as his own. The lock on the door clicked open and he dropped his hand as she pulled it open. She stood before him, wearing nothing more than an oversized shirt, the light from the room showcasing her slender form.
“Hi.”
Her voice was soft, her small nipples poking through the white fabric. He licked his lips as he stared at them, the color of her areolas showing faintly as her breasts rose and fell to the rhythm of her breathing. He didn’t say anything, just walked in and shut the door behind him with his foot.
Helina walked backwards as Gaijryc pushed his way inside and shut the door with a loud click. She didn’t know what it was, but there was definitely something different about him, something more primal and feral about the way he was presenting himself. She didn’t miss how he kept looking at her body, his eyes going to her breasts and…lower.
Clutching the book she had been reading to her chest, she watched him remove the black jacket he wore. The black button down shirt that was revealed showed every line and definition of his muscled body. She eyed him appreciatively. The jeans he wore fit him to perfection, a little baggy all around, but did nothing to hide what was underneath. He never took his eyes off her as he threw the jacket onto the small table next to the kitchen.
“What are you doing, Gaijryc?” Her voice quivered as she asked the question. She swallowed in nervousness. She couldn’t move, just stood there, not knowing what to say or do as he stalked toward her.
“No one has bothered you?”
She shook her head as he came closer to her.
“I hadn’t sensed anyone, but I wanted to make sure. Do you like it so far?”
“What?” She murmured as she watched him. He held his arms open as if to show her the cabin. She couldn’t help but notice how the shirt stretched against the hard contours of his chest. “I didn’t expect you back so soon.”
He kept his eyes on her as he walked through the kitchen, running his hand along the smooth surface of the countertop. “I couldn’t help myself.”
She couldn’t believe what he had just said, but she didn’t deny the little trill of pleasure that went through her at his admission. Helina felt naked with just the shirt on, and now regretted that she hadn’t bothered to put a bra on or a pair of panties. Her hair was damp from her earlier bath, and she knew he could see right through the material. Idly running her fingers over the book’s pages, she tried to occupy her mind on something other than the pulse between her legs.
“Were you reading?”
His eyes went down to the book she held, and she brought it up and looked at it as if she hadn’t realized it had been in her grasp. “Oh, yes. I was just flipping through it. I found a bunch of old books in a cupboard.”
“Anything good?”
“Most of them I have never heard of, but I found an old tattered copy of Romeo and Juliet.”
“A tale of star-crossed lovers.” He smiled and walked up to her, taking the book gently out of her hands and running his fingers over the spine. “Have you read this before?”
She nodded and watched him look through the pages. “In high school we had to read it.”
“Did it make you cry?”
“What?”
“The ending of the book, did you cry?”
“Well, yes, I guess I did. It was a long time ago. Have you ever read it?”
He smiled at her as he set the book down and moved toward the couch. He sat down and leaned back, putting both arms on the back of the cushions. “I have had a lot of time on my hands. I do have to say it was one of my favorites.” He patted the spot next to him.
Helina was hesitant to sit next to him, but images of the previous evening’s ministrations had her cheeks heating, and between her legs getting wet. Gaijryc’s whole demeanor screamed of complete relaxation and confidence. Helina couldn’t help but notice his body, all that male masculinity that made her feel so feminine. Sitting on the couch, her ass hanging half off of it, she bunched her hands tightly in her lap. He leaned forward, his arms resting on his thighs as he stared at her.
“I haven’t been able to get you out of my head, Helina.”
“You haven’t?” She swallowed again, her mouth feeling so dry it was as if she had eaten cotton for dinner.
“Have you, sweet Helina?”
“Have I what?” She whispered, adrenalin now pumping through her bloodstream fiercely.
“Thought about me as I have about you?”
