Fierce (Devils Point Wolves Book 5)(7)
Dani waved her arms frantically around the room reminding him where they were. “Discord? That’s what you call this? I almost died. Our baby almost died. That is NOT DISCORD!”
As she raised her voice to a near shrieking level on the last, a middle aged man walked through her door with his eyebrows raised in question.
“What’s going on in here?”
“We’re having a discussion,” Creed said.
“A DISCUSSION! THAT’S WHAT YOU THINK?” she screamed.
“Easy, Ms. Jones. How about you take a breath and relax. The baby’s heart rate is elevated and I’d rather not see that.”
All of the fight expelled from Dani’s body. Her hands curled protectively around her stomach again and she turned her head away from both the doctor and Creed until she got the fight of tears under control. It’s true she was feeling extra emotional at the moment. But he’d started it.
He always started it.
“I’m sorry, doc. It’s my fault. I pushed too hard.”
Dani’s head jerked at Creed’s admission. She couldn’t have heard him right. Bad boys don’t say they’re sorry and Creed was a bad boy with all caps. From the tips of his wavy dark hair that always looked fresh out of a bed no matter what he was doing, down to the black shit kickers he wore on his bike. Creed Donovan was one hundred percent bad boy. Which is exactly why she was pregnant and alone.
Pregnant because she had no control around him and her brain went stupid every time he was in the room. Alone because she knew a man like him would never settle down and give her the life she so desperately wanted. Men like him were never tamed. As far as she was concerned being a shifter only made it worse.
It wasn’t fair to expect him to settle and it wasn’t fair to her baby.
“Why don’t you give Ms. Jones some time to rest and go and get some sleep yourself? You’ve been here all night.”
Dani felt her mouth drop open at what the doctor said. Creed had been here all night? Some of the ice she tried to keep around her heart melted.
He nodded and stepped forward. He bent down and placed a kiss on her forehead that made her body tingle from tip to toe. Kisses from Creed, well, they were special.
“I’ll be back in a few hours. I need to go see how Sawyer is doing and check in with Dante. You’ll be okay?”
She nodded, a new lump in her throat preventing her from saying anything.
He squeezed her hand and then walked from the room. Something she watched until he was gone from sight. Feeling as hollowed out as the last time he walked away, the pressure in her chest intensified.
Crap. As much as she needed him to walk away, she didn’t really want him to. He always made it seem so easy. And if it was that easy to go out the door then—
“Wait. Isn’t Sawyer here in the hospital?”

The next morning Creed stood at the front door, or what was left of the front door, of Club Diablo. In less than twenty four hours his entire world had turned upside down. A thriving business was reduced to smoking ash and a skeletal frame, three precious lives were lost and his best friend was currently fighting for his life after suffering severe burns across seventy percent of his body.
All in the name of retaliation.
While no one had claimed responsibility, Brody and Allison, the newest members of their pack, were certain the hunters were responsible. He believed it too and the need for revenge burned in his gut.
Almost losing his mate had been one thing. Finding out he’d nearly lost a child too made the bloodlust that much stronger. Payback was definitely next on the agenda.
“Standing here staring at the remains isn’t going to make anything better.”
Creed turned toward the sound of Diego behind him. He owed so much to the alpha leaders, but especially Diego. He’d risked everything to save Sawyer when Creed couldn’t get back into the building. Now guilt burned alongside the anger, festering inside him.
His best friend saved Dani and Diego saved Sawyer. Creed’s debts were piling up.
“Still trying to wrap my head around it all. We should have seen this coming.”
“You and Sawyer were on alert. This was no one’s fault other than the bastard who planted the bomb.”
“Oh those hunters are definitely responsible. And I’m all too happy to deliver their justice when the time comes.”
Diego’s mouth formed a grim line. “We won’t be doing anything hasty. We’ve got humans crawling all over the island investigating this shit. The one human death is going to cost us dearly.”
“Our business is legit and we’ve got all the paperwork we need to back up every question they could possibly have. We learned that lesson a long time ago.”
