Enjoying the Chase (Guarded Hearts #2)

Chapter 1
My cell phone buzzed in my pocket and I glanced at my Captain, wondering what he would do if I looked at my message. It was probably Sarah or Sasha or whatever the girls name was that I was supposed to be taking out tonight. He would be seriously pissed if I got caught checking messages, when I should be listening to his briefing about the raid we were on tomorrow. Screw it, he wouldn't do anything; I was the best sniper he had so there was no way he would take me off of point for the operation tomorrow.
I shoved my hand in my pocket and pulled out my phone, flicking through and opening a new picture message from my best friend, Ashton. As I opened it I saw a cute little baby, all scrunched up and dirty looking. He had a mess of brown hair and looked like he was crying a little. Holy shit, they did it. Anna had given birth! I grinned and flicked to the next photo, it was Anna holding the baby, the message underneath read;
'Anna and baby Cameron, both doing great'
"Shit yeah!" I shouted happily, jumping out of my seat. She did it! I was so pleased for both of them, they'd waited a long time and I know Anna was finding it hard being pregnant; she was terrified of losing the baby. Ashton was too, but I think he was even more worried because he was stressed about losing her as well after what she went through last time when she miscarried and almost died.
"Nate Peters, what the hell do you think you're doing interrupting my briefing?" Captain Elder shouted angrily, as everyone turned in their seats to look at me.
I swallowed loudly, great another day of paperwork for me! Damn it, I've got such a freaking big mouth! Oh well, there's nothing I can do about it now and happiness was still running though my system at the thought of my best friend being a dad.
"Ashton and Anna had their baby," I announced, grinning proudly as I held the phone up showing the rest of the team the photo as evidence.
"Yeah? What did they have?" he asked, his face softening.
"Little boy."
"Well that's awesome; I take it everything's fine. The President's daughter is okay?" Captain Elder asked.
I nodded in confirmation. "Apparently she's doing good."
"Well that's great. Now can you sit the fuck down so I can finish my briefing?" he shouted, slamming his hand down on the desk next to him.
I nodded quickly. "Yes Sir, sorry Sir." I slumped down in my seat again, trying to look reproachful but to be honest I don't think I pulled it off. I couldn't help but smile proudly. Ashton was the best friend a guy could ask for and he deserved this, I'd never seen him as happy as Anna made him.
They'd both been through so much and were incredible people and this baby would be one lucky little kid to have both of them in his life, I know I was.
I could barely concentrate on the rest of the briefing, hopefully it'd all be in the pack and I could read through it tomorrow morning before coming on duty. I needed to go to the hospital and see them and tell Anna congratulations. Anna was awesome and I couldn't help but be a little jealous that Ashton had met her first. I'd never really wanted to settle down with one girl, but I know that if Anna wasn't Ashton's girl, I would be chasing her around, begging for a chance. She was beautiful and smart and funny, everything I hoped I would meet in a girl one day. I hoped I found my perfect match just like Ashton did, lucky bastard.
Finally, we were dismissed, and I headed into the middle of the team in a bid to get out of the room before Captain Elder spotted me and kicked my ass down to the filing room or something as punishment for the interruption.
Kurt grinned as he pushed me in front of him out of the door. "Only you could get out without a punishment, Nate." He rolled his eyes teasingly.
"Yeah, you know he loves me." I waggled my eyebrows jokingly. In all honesty the Captain did love me, I was great at my job and although I got in trouble quite a bit for fooling around, I was reliable and the best he had.
"Let's see the picture," Kurt said, holding out his hand for my cell phone. I flicked through, finding the two pictures and handed then it to him. He looked at them thoughtfully for a couple of seconds.
"You know, you could make a fortune selling this to the press. First picture of the President's grandson. How about you Bluetooth it to me and I sell it for you, and then we'll split the money."
He raised his eyebrows hopefully.
