Dragon Down Under(42)

“…or else, how could you stand our grumpy Brimstone?” Slade added and laughter echoed throughout the chamber.

Brim grunted and shot a glare at Slade before his gaze returned to Amber, softening into one of love and adoration.

The room fell quiet when the King raised his hand. “Slade, it seems the mission to the Human Realm has been a successful one.”

Slade inclined his head towards the King. “Thank you, your Majesty.”

“Amber, can I commission you to write the tome for us?”

“Of course, your Majesty, I would be honoured to help and will do my best.”

“Good, it is settled. Now, to the matter of the portal and the demons. Javir has been dealt with, but I won’t allow something like this to happen again.”

“I have an idea on that,” Brim spoke up. He glanced down at her and smiled. Amber knew he was up to something. “An idea which will benefit my mate, and keep guard over the realm portal.”

Chapter 13

Seven months later.

“Dragon rule number one: When making friends with humans, it is a good idea if you don’t eat them. They are stringy and do not taste like chicken, no matter how much tomato sauce, or mustard you put on them. Actually, human women taste divine without anything at all—raw, sexy, and naked.”

Amber swung around in her comfy and expensive office chair to grin up at Slade. He closed the cover of A Dragon’s Guide To All Things Human, by Amber Anderson.

It was amazing how quickly something could get published once you waved a few dollars at a printing company. The King's commission was a bag of gold and sapphires he claimed matched her eyes, and worth a hundred times more than a bestselling author would ever earn in the Human Realm.

“Brilliant work, sweet. You know it’s a bestseller in the Dragon Realm.”

“That’s because the King gives them away.” She rolled her eyes and swivelled back around to her latest book. Her fingers barely stopped typing, and now she was in her fancy new, writing cave, the words flowed like water.

“Where is your big, red bodyguard?”

“Brim’s out, putting the new soldiers through their paces. I sent him something which you may need your noise cancelling headphones for.”

Slade groaned. “Again! I swear you two have more sex than the entire human population. I’m a single, horny dragon, how am I meant to cope?”

“Darwin’s three hundred kilometres that way, or have you already gone through the entire female population?” She waved her hand in no particular direction while her eyes scanned over her last scene which she texted to Brim’s mobile.

Their new home was smack bang in the middle of the desert and several feet below ground. A team of dragon builders spent several months digging out mounds of earth before hardening each section of wall, so there was no chance of its collapse. The miles of tunnels and chambers also provided barracks for a few dragon soldiers under Brimstone and Slade’s command.

It was Brim’s idea to build underground, next to the realm portal to guard it from anyone with ill intent towards either the human or dragons. Once built, he spared no expense to fit it out with every modern comfort a human, or dragon could dream of, including her own office—a large oak desk and the most modern computer they could find. Slade, as a wedding gift, made a chiselled, stone sign and fixed it above the door. ‘Amber’s Writing Cave’.

It didn’t matter they were hundreds of kilometres from any civilization, with the ability to teleport, anything they needed was within easy reach.

She loved it, loved the quiet to get on with her writing, and yet, have the ability keep in touch with all her other author friends over the internet.

The sound of heavy footfalls in the hallway made her grin, and she hit the save button.

“Slade, get the fuck out!” announced her husband’s arrival.

“Amber, Amber, Amber, how many times have I told you not to let him read the sex scenes?”

She turned and shrugged. “I’m a writer always in need of fresh inspiration. I like to practice what I preach.”

Brim grabbed Slade’s shoulder, yanking him back into the hallway. “Go do something else.” He slammed the door in Slade’s face. She heard his laughter fading as he walked away, never offended by Brim’s gruff and rough behaviour. Everyone understood it was just his way.

The laughter died on her lips as she gazed up into Brimstones blazing, lust-filled eyes. He pulled his larger style, mobile phone from his pocket, the illuminable words catching her gaze.

“You sure you want to do this?”

She licked her lips and nodded nervously, her body tense with eager anticipation. Her big dragon was always willing and eager to help her act out any erotic scene she was having trouble with.
