“I’m done.”
She grabbed my hands before I could reach for the wall. “Come on. You don’t seem like the kind of guy who quits this early in the game.”
“I wasn’t aware we were playing a game.”
She’d somehow pulled me back into the middle of the rink. We slowly glided around, her pulling me forward as she skated backward.
“It’s all a game, Mr. Ward. A game you want desperately to win.” She let her body come into the circle of my arms. I placed my hands at her waist.
“And I play dirty when I’m desperate,” I responded in an unusually breathy tone.
She smiled then pulled away from me abruptly. Miraculously, I didn’t fall. She continued to slowly skate backward at a close distance but didn't hold on to me. I was actually able to stay somewhat balanced without her hands to guide me, but I kept my eyes locked on hers. We circled the rink one whole time without me worrying about causing bodily harm to myself.
Chapter Six
Juliana
“This is crazy.” Devlin shook his head and shivered as I forced him to have another spoon of my ice cream.
“Ice cream is a perfectly normal treat.”
“We just spent half an hour standing on an iceberg in the middle of the city, and now you want ice cream? Not to mention it’s the middle of February and under twenty degrees out here.”
I giggled. He was actually quite adorable when he got pouty. “You’re very talkative when you get whiny.”
“I don’t wh—” I pushed another spoon into his mouth, cutting him off. He held a hand over his mouth as he swallowed it, and then he got this wicked flare in his eye.
“You really enjoy shoving things in my mouth.”
Uh-oh… I knew where his mind was going, because mine was speeding down the same naughty path.
He edged closer to me on the park bench we’d taken up. “You know there are far better desserts you can offer me that I won’t complain about.”
“Don’t.” He was inching closer and closer, and I knew I couldn’t stall him if he started using that sexy tone with me.
“Why? I promise I won’t bite. Not unless you want me to.”
“Devlin…”
“I’ll lick it too, if you want.” His cold tongue slid across my lips. But he didn’t stop there. He moved his mouth along my jawline, flicked across the pulse pounding against my neck, and then he licked and sucked at the sensitive spot behind my ear that caused me to melt into him.
Game over.
When he pulled back, his pupils were so dilated his usually pale blue eyes looked a vibrant shade of cerulean. His fingers gently caressed my skin as he cupped my face and licked his lips.
I’d known from the beginning it would come to this. I didn’t know what it was about the man that made me react differently to him. My body lay dormant until he crashed into my life and woke every nerve ending and desire I’d always lacked.
He kissed me. Gently at first, then built on the intensity with the clever strokes of his tongue against mine. He was in total control of the kiss, though I tried to pretend I was calling the shots.
He tasted like my favorite ice cream and pure lust. It was intoxicating, addicting, making me moan into his mouth and press myself as close as I could get to him. I wanted him to myself. I needed to get him alone so I could feel more of this, preferably without all the barriers.
I broke the kiss, but he was intent on keeping it alive. He bit my lip and kissed a trail down to my collarbone.
“Take me home.”
He lifted his head. He looked disoriented. “Home? Like… Your place?”
“No… Take me to your place.”
He raised his eyebrows, the longing apparent in his eyes. He wanted what I wanted, but was being overly careful.
He huffed, trying to hide the shadow of a smirk on his face. He knew he was going to win this game, judging by his victorious grin. “You know what I’m going to do to you if I take you home, right?”
“Ye—yes.” I stuttered my response as the nerves of my bold invitation started to set in. He swept a hand in my hair and pulled me in closer. My hands gripped the lapels of his jacket tighter as his lips grazed my ear.
“Just so we’re clear. I’m going to fuck you, angel… in a beautiful way, and then in a dirty way. And once you let me corrupt your body, I’m going to continue to do so every single night.”
I wasn’t even sure I was still breathing. My throat felt dry and my heart pounded against my chest. Every word he uttered played as vivid images in my head.
God, I want that.
“Good.”
I hadn’t realized I’d said that out loud and flushed a little when he looked into my eyes. I’d answered his question, albeit accidentally, and he was pleased with himself.
