Danil’s Mate(57)
Amos was losing his mortal mind. He could still taste her in his mouth. He felt so strange today, knowing that the best moment of his life was behind him now. He’d been to the mountaintop. It was face first between Lucy’s legs. Amos discreetly adjusted himself in his pants.
He had to stop thinking about her. He had to put this behind him. Sure, it had been incredible. The hottest thing that would ever happen to him. But it was over. In the past. Actually, as far as he was concerned, it had never even happened.
Amos resolutely avoided her eyes, which were open again, and staring straight at him. He turned his head as he felt someone approach him from behind. Oh. Great. The fucking Oracle was here. Just what Amos needed.
The Oracle came to stand beside Amos and was obviously about to say hello, when a strange look came over his face. He leaned in and studied Amos’s eyes. Amos immediately looked away, disconcerted by the weird stare and suddenly nervous that the Oracle could see more than he should.
The Oracle looked at Amos, then at Lucy. Then back to Amos. Amos turned away from him, supremely uncomfortable.
“Busy night?” The Oracle asked.
Amos turned and saw an expression on his face that could only be described as glee. Fuck. The Oracle knew something was up. How much he knew, Amos had no idea.
“Not really,” he replied.
“Sure, sure,” the Oracle said, scratching one hand over his stubble and staring at the side of Amos’s face. “So that’s her, huh?”
Amos grunted. Obviously the Oracle already knew the answer to that question. He was the one who’d picked her out of the 3 billion women on earth.
Amos could tell the Oracle was about to say more but he was blessedly interrupted when the King slapped his book closed. The reading of the scripture was over. Which meant that the King was going to address the room.
Usually the room was filled with many more people. But Lucy’s presence required it just be Amos, the Oracle, the wives and a few other bodyguards in Amos’s employ.
The King cleared his throat. “Lucy. Come here.”
Amos held his breath at the defiant look on her face, but luckily she did as she was told.
“Kneel before me,” the King said.
Again she did as she was told. Amos felt a weird twisting feeling in his stomach, watching her kneel before another man. He imagined himself in the King’s position, Lucy eye level with his cock. Amos blew out a low breath and beside him the Oracle snickered.
Amos was so distracted he almost didn’t notice the King pulling something out of a velvet covered box. The glinting of gold caught his eye.
His stomach dropped out when he realized what it was. It was her fidelity cuff. The King was going to put the choker around Lucy’s neck the way he had for all of his wives. It would symbolize to all who she belonged to. Who owned her. Who got to sleep with her and impregnate her.
Amos felt sick. The King leaned down and dragged Lucy closer to him. She had been leaning away as far as she could get. Amos took a step forward.
Lucy was on all fours, having been pushed to the ground by the King. She was trying to crawl backwards, out of his grip. Amos took two more quick steps forward. But he felt something clamp onto his arm.
Turning, he saw the Oracle holding him back. But that’s not what stopped him. He could have easily swatted the man aside. What stopped Amos in his tracks was the look on the Oracle’s face. It was serious. More serious than Amos had ever seen him. The Oracle actually looked fearful at Amos’s actions.
Amos shook free of him and turned back. He felt a roaring in his ears. The King had successfully clamped the golden cuff around Lucy’s neck. Still on her knees, she dazedly had one hand on the choker, as if she couldn’t believe it were real. Zara rushed forward and helped Lucy stand to go back to her chair.
King Dalyer reclined on the throne, he was slightly winded from the altercation, but Amos could see a flush of lust rise up the King’s neck. Pushing Lucy to the ground and forcing the cuff around her neck had turned King Dalyer on.
For the second time Amos found himself walking forward and for the second time he felt the Oracle’s fingers digging into his shoulder. The Oracle nodded his head to an alcove on the side of the hall. Amos looked back, saw that the King was once again reading from the scriptures, signaling the near close to the morning meeting.
Amos followed the Oracle, who immediately rounded on him once they were far enough to not be heard.
“Amos, have you lost your mind?” he whisper-shouted.
Pretty much. Yeah, he had. But Amos only grunted.
The Oracle scrubbed his face with his hands. “Amos, I don’t know exactly what happened between you and Lucy, but I can tell you, if you keep going like this, it’s gonna get you killed.”
