Daddy's Here(33)

“Come on,” Jake said, pulling his boxers up and grabbing his clothes. “Let’s go.”

“But I’m not dressed.”

“Come on!” he shouted, shoving me out of the dressing room. “Grab anything.”

I only had time to scoop up my shoes before he dragged me out of the shop. On the way he picked something off a hook and then a second later, we were outside. “Stop!” I screamed. “I’m naked!”

“Here,” he said, shoving a dress into my hand. “Quickly.”

I threw the dress on, pulling it over my shoulders as the shop assistant appeared in the doorway behind me. “You haven’t paid for those,” she shouted.

“Come on,” Jake said, taking my hand and beginning to run. He was still only in his boxers and drew a lot of looks as we sprinted to the end of the street and round the corner. “In there,” he said, pointing at a dodgy looking pub. “We’ll hide in there.”

He pulled on the clothes he’d taken before pushing the door to the pub inwards and vanishing inside, leaving me to follow him a second later. I looked down at my dress and realised it was from the children’s section, a short frilly frock that would probably lead to me being thrown out of the pub for being under age before I was even inside. Taking a deep breath, I stepped over the threshold and followed Jake, hoping he hadn’t gone far.

TWENTY-FIVE

ISABEL

He was waiting by the bar, ordering soft drinks for us both. “What do we do now?” I asked as he tapped his pockets and swore under his breath. “I left my wallet in the hotel,” he said. “Shit.”

The barman was halfway through pouring the first drink when he stopped. “I’m going to have to ask you to leave if you can’t pay for these,” he said.

“Hold on,” Jake replied, glancing around the pub.

“What are you doing?” I asked as he began to walk away from me.

“Wait there,” he replied, glancing back over his shoulder. “Nice dress by the way.”

“Is that your father?” the barman asked after he’d gone.

“No,” I replied absently. “That’s my Daddy.”

My curiosity got the better of me when he hadn’t returned a minute later. Walking away from the bar I saw he’d gone through to the pool room. He was in the middle of a game with an overweight guy in his fifties. “Is this what you’re doing?” I asked. “Playing pool?”

“My daughter,” he said to the man who was lining up a shot. “Izzy, I told you to wait by the bar.” His eyes narrowed. “Go!”

I turned away, swearing to myself. What the hell was he doing? I sat on a stool by the bar and waited, not sure what else to do. My mind went back to the clothes shop, me on my knees, his cock sliding into my mouth. In the cold light of day, I couldn’t believe I’d done it. It was already like a dream, like something I’d imagined, not something that had actually happened. Why had he done it? Why had I let him?

The door to the pub swung open and a man walked in, distracting me from my thoughts. He glanced around him before slowly sauntering over to me. “Hi there,” he said with a half smile. “Can I buy you a drink?”

“I’d watch out,” the bar man said. “Her dad’s round the corner.”

“Oh, is he?” the man said, not looking at all surprised. “I better not, then.”

Something about him was suspicious but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I got up from the stool, ignoring the way he was still looking at me. I caught sight of Jake, he was still in the middle of the game, only three balls left on the table. Rolling my eyes, I pushed open the door to the ladies and walked inside, looking at myself in the mirror.

I looked tired. Not surprising given everything that had happened in the last couple of days. The frock looked as strange on me as ever, as if I really was his little girl, although I knew he hadn’t deliberately chosen it. My hair was a mess but there wasn’t much I could do about it.

I ran the tap and scooped water into my cupped palms, bringing it up to splash onto my face. “What am I doing?” I said out loud.

“Coming home with me,” a voice said.

I spun round to see the man from the bar standing too close to me.

“You’re a hard woman to find,” he said, taking a step towards me as I backed up against the sink. “Lucky Tony put a man in the train station just in case.”

“What do you want from me?”

“To take you home.”

“You can’t. I won’t go.”

“Not while Jake’s guarding you, maybe but I knew he couldn’t stay by your side forever”
