"Oh, I think that will be a godsend," Kara said as she nestled in even closer to his chest. Quinn couldn't believe how blessed he had come to feel in just forty-eight hours.
"How much longer do you think we should stay, before heading home?" Quinn asked his brother. "I talked to Mama last night, and she's already making noise that we needed to get our lives settled down south." Ben and Kara chuckled.
"That's sounds like her. Once things are taken care of, no moss grows under that stone." They ate in silence for a bit. Ben finally answered. "I am home. Wherever both of you are, I'm always home."
Epilogue
"If I find you lifting one more thing, sweetheart, you're going to be spanked, and not in a way that you'll like," Quinn said as he picked her up and put her onto the sofa. Kara stared up at her husband and attempted to pout, but they both burst out laughing at her failed effort.
"Good, maybe our daughter won't be able to pout either. Because if she can, she'll have her dads wrapped around her little finger," Quinn said as he rubbed the gentle swell of Kara's belly. They had just learned the baby's sex, right before Ben had left to go up to Sitka.
"I'm going to be totally stuck as the disciplinarian. After growing up in a household of boys, this little girl is going to be you and Ben's little princess."
"Sweetheart, I'm not going to deny that. Ben and I were sincere that all we wanted was a healthy baby, but when we found out we were getting a little girl, we were over the moon." Kara looked at this wonderful man she married and felt her heart melt. She couldn't wait for Ben to get home so she could show both of them how much she loved them. But then she gave herself a mental shake and started considering practical matters.
"Quinn, you have to let me get the room ready."
"The room is fine, sweetheart. Tim's going to love it." Kara saw a look of hesitation flit across Quinn's face as he knelt beside the couch. He reached out and touched her cheek, his forehead touching hers. "I love your heart. It's so big and generous."
"I love that you asked if Timothy could live with us. I think having his brothers with him, and having a fresh start here in Fate Harbor, is exactly what he needs. But more than anything, I love that you asked me for what you needed. I love being part of your life, Quinn Shotbrook."
"My life doesn't make any sense without you, Ben and our daughter. I love you, Kara."
The front door opened. "We're home!"
Ben came in first and Kara watched as he zeroed in on her and Quinn and smiled. He walked over to them, and rested his hand next to Quinn's on Kara's tummy.
"I'm home."
Now the circle was complete.
