Catching Lily(26)

"Sorry I mentioned it. I'm coming over."

"No," she shouted. "Please. This is why I didn't tell you."

"Lily, I'm not going to bed with you home alone. It's not safe. So, you have two choices-I come there or you come here."

She groaned. "Fine. Shit. I never should have told you."

"Yes, you should have. About twenty-six hours ago. But at least you finally did. Keep the line open the entire time. Don't hang up. Put the phone in your lap while you drive."

She glanced down at her gray sweatshirt, the one she'd gotten in college about sixteen years ago. And the sweatpants were hardly newer. Also gray. Fraying at the bottom. "I need to change."

"No, you don't. That dress was killer sexy."

He thinks I'm still wearing the dress. That almost made her laugh. Fine. I'll go like this. Show him.

"On second thought, I'm sending someone to get you. Hang on a sec." He disappeared, the connection sounding muffled.

What did he mean? A cab?

Thirty seconds later, he was back. "Done. Head downstairs to the rear entrance. If anyone's watching you, they will be guarding the garage exit. No one would expect you to leave without your car."

It wasn't a bad idea. "How is someone going to get here that fast?"

"Trust me. Go, Lily. They'll be waiting before you get to the back door."

"Okay. Okay. Bossy damn ballplayer," she grumbled.

"Don't you forget it." He chuckled in her ear. She loved the sound. Without thinking further, she grabbed her purse and headed out the door, locking it behind her. In five minutes, she was at the rear entrance. "I'm at the door. You're sure someone's out there? It's late, Dominic."

"Yep. Just got a confirmation text. Black limo. Driver's name is John."

She pushed open the heavy metal door and stepped outside, not releasing it until she spotted the limo.

"Ms. Phillips?"

"Yes."

"I'm John." He opened the rear passenger door.

She nearly ran to get in the car, praying she didn't get caught by either Luke or whomever he had watching her. Was she being paranoid? She hoped so.

"You okay, babe?"

"Yeah. I'm in the car."

"Okay. You can hang up now. I'll see you in fifteen."

"Okay." She ended the call and set the phone in her lap, holding it out of fear it would ring again. Or a text would come. If Luke caught her, she had no doubt her expression of ecstasy would be front page news in hours.

No text. No call. After a few minutes, she opened the Internet and googled her name. Nothing.

But that was too easy.

She googled Dominic Cordes and held her breath.

Nothing. Nothing from the last forty-eight hours, anyway.

"Ma'am?"

Lily jerked her head up to see they had arrived. They were in the circle drive in front of Dominic's home. "Oh." She unbuckled her seatbelt as John circled the car and opened the door.

Several steps led to the well-lit front entrance, and the door opened before she reached the top.

Dominic stepped outside. He waved at John. "Thanks, man. I owe you." He reached for Lily's arm. His eyes danced with laughter. "Your dress is severely different than how I remember."

"You said to come in what I was wearing." She held out her arms as she stepped inside. "I had already changed into this."

His deep chuckle made her nipples tighten. Then he shut the front door and turned around to face her, his head dipped, his eyebrows close together. "I think I liked the dress better."

"Really? Because I thought this would totally get you off."

"Oh, don't worry. It will." He reached out and grabbed her arm so fast she squealed. Two seconds later, he had her spun around and flattened to the door. His lips landed on hers, but his hands went under her sweatshirt, lifting it until he yanked it over her head.

The kiss only broke for the second it took the cotton to rush past her face. "See? Off." Then his hands were on her breasts, and his lips consumed her.

Her heart rate increased so fast it felt like it was pounding out of her chest. She tipped her head against the wall, breaking the kiss. "I thought we were going to talk strategy. Figure out what to do about Luke."

"Mmm. We can do that later. Tomorrow. How about you let me make you forget it for tonight?" He molded his hands to her breasts.

She tried to focus on him, unsure what to say.

"He has no idea you're here right now. I can't imagine how much stress you've been under for the last day, worrying about this alone. The situation won't change any while I make you forget." When he pinched her nipples, she lifted onto her toes.
