“I don’t even want to think what Rob’s gonna do when he finds out. Your dad’s gonna have to drive Glenn to pick up his car, too. We won’t be able to hide anything. Damn and double damn.”
“Those assholes don’t even care. How come we’re so stupid?”Gina asked, glaring at the laughing sailors.
“I dunno. God, I am so dead!”Cassie groaned. “I just wanna go to sleep.”
The two girls waited silently for the tell-tale sound of their doom. Gina bit her lip, hearing her father’s voice booming in the other room. She grabbed Cassie’s hand. “He is royally pissed. I guess we won’t see much of the great outdoors for the next few months,”Gina whispered, standing as her red-faced father appeared at the bars.
“Gina Louise Todd, I am so going to blister your ass for this! What the hell were you thinking? No, don’t answer me; I don’t even want to hear your excuses!”Mr. Todd bellowed, making everyone in hearing range wince. Gina shrunk on the bench, suddenly changing her mind about leaving the safety of the little cell.
“Cassandra, I’m sorry, but you girls won’t be seeing each other outside of classes for a while. You—get out!”He pointed to Gina. She yelped loudly as his hand landed squarely on her backside. She stared at him incredulously. He merely pointed to the doorway and she scrambled to obey.
Cassie leaned against the wall, waiting her turn. Glenn walked in slowly, his eyes locking onto her as he approached the bars. “I can’t believe this,”he said, shaking his head. “I leave you alone for a couple of hours and thishappens? You realize that I’m never going to hear the end of it with the bros. Damn it, Cass!”
“Can’t you just get me out of here and then we’ll figure out something?”
“Yeah, I’m waiting for the card to clear. We won’t be able to hide it. Your bail was 3 grand and you’ll have a court date in four weeks.”
“But the cop said he wasn’t going to press charges on me!”Cassie panicked.
Glenn chuckled, moving aside for the jailer. ”You have to testify against those fools you were with and then the charges will be dropped. You’re under the drinking age so they are being busted. The officer said nothing about charges for smoking weed. That’s the deal. Shit, Cass, Rob’s gonna kill both of us, then Bry is going to make us into pudding…”Glenn sighed, hugging her tightly. Cassie remained silent as they went outside and got into Bill’s car. The drive back to the house seemed to last forever.
“Glenn? I’m really sorry.”Cassie grabbed his hand.
“Yeah, me too. I can’t think of how we’re gonna get out of it.”
“You could, well, punish me,”Cassie said quietly.
Glenn frowned.
She continued,“I mean, if you took care of it, it would show Rob you’re responsible and didn’t need his intervention. Maybe it would get him off both our backs.”
“I’m not comfortable with spanking you, kid. No.”Glenn’s brow was drawn down.
“You don’t have to, just say you did,”Cassie suggested, fingers crossed.
Glenn considered her suggestion, but then shook his head. “You deserve something for this stunt. Sorry, but Rob needs to handle this. I just need to figure out how to tell him. In the meantime, stay in your room and keep low. I’m going to bed. It’s late and I’m pooped,”Glenn sighed, kissing her forehead and going down to his room.
Cassie sat on her bed, guilt filling her to the point she wanted to puke. She eyed the phone. Despairingly, she dialed the number, her hand shaking unsteadily as the phone rang.
“Robby? I’m sorry I woke you…”
“Cass? Are you okay?”Rob asked, sitting up suddenly in bed, fully alert. He glanced at the clock. It was 4:45 in the morning. Cassie started crying.
“I screwed up really bad. I’m so sorry. I don’t know what to do. I’m scared.”
“Shhh, breathe. That’s a girl…Calm down. Tell me what happened? Are you hurt? Is Glenn alright?”His heart pounded with fear.
“We’re fine. You’re going to kill me. It’s not Glenn’s fault, I tricked him,”she whispered.
Rob took a deep breath as she unfolded the events to him. “We’ll deal with this when I get home, Cassandra. I’m very upset with you right now. You deserve a mighty switching for this. Especially since this is your second pot offense. I don’t know what to do with you!”he said, trying to stay calm as he flexed his fists.
Cassie swallowed hard. “I know. I’m really sorry. I thought that if I told you right away…”
