“What if I get cold?” Wrapping the sheet around herself tightly, she looked up at him defiantly. He let out a sigh and pulled it off of her quickly and eyed her bare breasts.
“We’re in a tropical rainforest, Leah. It’s got to be 85 degrees right now,” he replied with a laugh. She couldn’t help but smile wide with excitement. The rainforest, under the stars with a gorgeous man she was absolutely crazy for. And apparently, she was his sex slave that wasn’t allowed to wear any clothes. That last part was still pretty weird.
“I don’t want anyone else to see me,” she told him, embarrassingly looking down at her bare body.
“Neither do I, to be honest.” Adam lifted her chin and kissed her forehead. “So you’ll have little contact with the staff for now. Which is mainly composed of women.” He ran his fingers through her hair reassuringly. “And the most skilled homosexual mercenaries I could find,” he laughed. She looked at him quizzically and he nodded with a smirk, making her giggle and relax.
They made their way back inside and went downstairs to the dining room. An impressive spread of seafood was already on the table, along with bowls of beautifully colored tropical fruit and vases with exotic flowers. Adam pulled out the chair for her and waited until she began eating before diving into his own dinner.
“So, I take it you’re not a carpenter,” she inquired, breaking the silence as they looked at each other across the table.
“Well, not professionally,” he started, “but it is one of my greatest passions.” He opened a bottle of Champagne and poured her a glass. “I actually built this house, and this table. Along with the cabinets, shelves, and basically anything else you see that is made out of wood. Even the floors.”
“Really?” Taking a sip, she looked around and noted that there was an incredible amount of woodwork. “That must have taken forever.”
“I’ve been working on it for a while,” he said. “I wanted it to be perfect. For you.” Leah looked up at him, doing her best not to get drawn into those inky eyes.
Determined to get more information out of him, she shifted the conversation back to more practical matters. Adam told her that they were, in fact, in Brazil, on a rainforest reserve that he’d purchased for her because it several years ago. It was very remote and it turned out that it had a large population of some of her favorite species of birds. She’d have everything she wanted as far as research went, including a separate building that would be built however she wanted and perhaps research assistants down the line.
When she asked how he could afford all of this, she wasn’t exactly surprised to hear that he was obscenely wealthy. It made sense given all he’d been able to do. But he wouldn’t go into any details about what exactly he did, or what kind of life he led back home. When she pressed him on it he grew irritated, so she dropped the issue.
“As you can see, the house doesn’t have much beyond the basics,” he said, lighting candles on the table. “I’ll leave the rest of the decorating to you. It’s important to me that you feel at home here. You’ll be staying for a long time.”
“How long?” A part of her was infuriated that he just took it upon himself to make this decision for her. But he had decided to give her everything she wanted. How could she turn her back on that?
“At least until after the first baby comes.” Leah’s jaw dropped open as she stared at him. “You’ll focus on that exclusively for now.”
“Excuse me?” she stammered back, her heart pounding and blood rushing to her cheeks.
“I’ve told you I need your body,” he said sternly. “Did you really think you’d get all this just in exchange for sex? Do you think I have any trouble getting that?”
“I don’t know if I can give that to you.” She slid her chair back from the table and looked around the large home.
“You know you will.” He walked over to her and poured another glass of Champagne. The first few glasses she’d had were already getting to her and she refused, making him frown. “Drink it. There won’t be any more alcohol for you for a while after tonight.” He pushed the glass towards her and stared her down until she complied and drank it.
“You can’t just do this to people,” Leah exclaimed, rising from her chair. “It doesn’t matter how much money you have.”
“You’re here, aren’t you?” His face was angry as he approached her. “Do you really want to go back to your stupid little life when you could have all this?”
