A soft chuckle drew her gaze to James and he said, “Honey, tell us what’s going through your head right now. Just be honest. You can tell us anything.”
She tucked a wisp of her hair behind her ear and took another sip of the wine and said, “I wonder why it is I’m the one you want to be with. I mean look at how I’ve put you off over the years.”
“And?” Vincent asked, picking up on her greater worry.
“And I’m wondering how I’ll ever handle you both. My sex drive has always been low.”
Vincent shrugged a broad shoulder and leaned toward her. She gasped when his hands found her under the water and lifted her onto his lap. Water sloshed over the edge of the tub and he chuckled. “I promise I won’t dunk you, fluff. I just want to hold you so James can rub your sore feet.”
She tried to not wiggle as he settled her onto his firm thighs but she couldn’t ignore the iron-hard ridge pressing against her lower back.
“What else?” Vincent encouraged, his voice a husky drawl so close to her ear that it raised a wave of gooseflesh on her neck and down her arms.
“I’m worried I’ll disappoint you.” He brushed her hair back from her neck as James lifted one of her feet into his big hands and began to gently knead it. “Oh,” she said, her cheeks filling with heat as the word came out sounding like a moan.
“Too much pressure?” James asked as he pressed his thumbs into the ball of her foot.
“No,” she moaned. “It’s perfect. Those shoes make my feet hurt.”
“Then why wear them, honey?” he asked as he continued rubbing.
“Mostly because I’m so short. They give me a lift. I was on my feet today more than I’d originally intended otherwise I wouldn’t have worn them. I hate it when Presley Ann whines about her feet hurting but I guess I’m no better.”
She didn’t want to think about her flaky sister at the moment and paid attention to Vincent as he said, “They make your legs look even sexier but we wouldn’t want you to be hurting.” She appreciated very much that he didn’t compare her to her sister.
“I’ll rub your feet anytime you want,” James said. It wasn’t lost on her that he was making a declaration about a future that was anything but certain.
“You said that you wondered why you were the one we wanted to be with.”
Leah nodded. “There are a lot of beautiful women in this town. In your jobs I imagine that you encounter plenty of them. Why would you want me when you could virtually have your pick? I mean, seriously, have you seen yourselves naked? You’re amazing.”
Both men chuckled but it was James who got her attention as he slid his palm up her calf. She cringed inwardly, remembering it’d been a couple of days since she’d shaved her legs. Damn it! He smiled as he stroked her calf again and she realized that with his rough, callused hands he might not notice. The sangria was sweet and tart in her mouth as she took another sip and swallowed.
“In our jobs we encounter a lot of women, yes, but if you understood what that was really like, day in and day out, you’d see why we’re attracted to you. Many of the people we come across are on the wrong side of the law and they will say anything, do anything, to get out of trouble. They lose control, they often show a disregard for others and…we don’t want that in our private lives.”
Vincent said, “You don’t need to compete with anyone else for our attention, fluff. The constant drama down at the station is a real turnoff. We know way more about some of the upstanding citizens of Divine than we ever wanted to. You’re a breath of fresh air…something we’ve wanted for a long time.”
“Are you saying there’s been no one else? In all that time? The last three years? Wait, I’m not sure I actually want an honest answer to that question. I didn’t ever expect that you were saints that whole time.”
Vincent leaned back in the tub and resettled her with a soft groan. “Until we finally talked, a few months after meeting you, we dated other women here and there. Once we realized that we aspired to a ménage lifestyle, anything else seemed temporary and we worried that ultimately it would hurt you and our chances with you. We were careful about protection and we’ve all had checkups since then. The last few years have flown by.”
“Seriously?” she asked, disbelieving that they didn’t have women asking for their attention on a daily basis.
“Is it that hard to believe?” Vincent asked. “Put the shoe on the other foot, fluff. Have you had any serious relationships since we met?”
