Billionaires and Baby Rattles(43)

She tugged him out of sight of the windows and snatched off his tie. Then she unbuttoned his shirt a little.

“What are you doing?”

“Making you look a little more regular, like the run-of-the-mill office worker.” She stood on tiptoe and ruffled his perfectly ordered hair. A waft of his cologne almost had her tumbling into his arms, but she resisted just in time. “Hm, take off that jacket. It’s a dead giveaway. I’ll hold it.”

He looked horrified, and she laughed.

“Come on. Cough it up. The dry cleaners can get the wrinkles out. You begged me, so you have to do as I say.”#p#分页标题#e#

“I don’t remember begging,” he grumbled, “and I’ve never been to a place that greasy looking.”

“Aw, poor baby. This is just an experiment. You won’t get cooties just sitting at the bar, and you won’t be soliciting these women to be your wife anyway. Get off your high horse, and do what I tell you.”

With the sigh of a martyr, he did as she asked. Kenzie’s fun level jumped several degrees as she stuffed his jacket into her bag. Easton disappeared through the door into the bar, and she watched the time on her cell phone for a minute and a half before she also entered. The place had a good crowd, and he was right, the patrons were average Joes and Janes, not the type of establishment a billionaire like him would frequent. She hoped that fact would work to her advantage, aside from the fact that, even rumpled, his clothing screamed high quality.

Easton sat near a bottle blonde with legs from her neck to her ankles. The long fake lashes swept pale cheeks to match soft pink lips, and D-cup breasts spilled over a low-cut blouse. She asked for it in more ways than one. Kenzie didn’t think this one was a good candidate for her test. She paused inside the entrance and scanned the place. A more conservative yet no less beautiful woman sat at the opposite end of the bar, but no stools next to her were open. Kenzie bit her lip, thinking. What the hell. He needed to go for it either way.

She moved closer to Easton and shifted into his line of sight. An exaggerated sneeze got several people’s attention. She peered into Easton’s eyes and then past him to the second woman. Near the quarry she’d chosen, she squeezed in a standing-room spot and ordered a drink. Seconds later, Easton wandered in her direction holding a beer. He’d taken her meaning. Good man. At least he wasn’t an idiot—or too stubborn to take direction. She had the feeling he just wanted to prove something to her.

Easton sidled up to the woman with long, flowing dark hair and a sweater over a cute but simple blouse. Her skirt reached to just above her knees, but it was the way she held herself, arms close to her sides and legs crossed at the ankles as she sat on the stool, that said she wasn’t going for the usual nonsense men spewed.

Kenzie strained to hear over the din. She expected to hear words that would have a woman wet and willing within seconds, hanging from Easton’s words and staring into his eyes, easily her favorite feature of his.

Easton set his beer on the bar beside the woman’s glass and leaned in close to her, meeting her gaze with his. “I want you. I can buy you a drink first, or we can forget the preliminaries and leave now.”

The stinging slap must have been heard around the bar. Kenzie choked on a bit of ice that slid down her throat. She thumped her cup on the counter and headed for the exit. Outside on the street, she shoved a fist into her mouth to cut off the laugh, and moisture pinched from the sides of her eyes.

“What’s so funny?”

She coughed and turned to face Easton. “Nothing. So…you have no charm. Check.”

The insult radiated off of him. “I have plenty of charm.”

“No, honey, I’m sorry, but your charm needs work.”

Red tinged the cheek where the woman had slapped him, but he had the nerve to still be sexy as hell. “You cannot use this one incident as an indicator of whether I can pick up women or not.”

She folded her arms over her chest and leaned against the wall. “There’s no question you get women, Easton. I think that long list said it all. What I’m telling you is it’s your gorgeous face and money that gets you the women.”

He fell silent, and they stared at each other. When he stepped closer, he caught her off guard. “You think I’m sexy?”

She swallowed. “Get it straight. I said gorgeous.” She looked him up and down. Even scruffy, he made her want to jump him. “You’re okay.”

Amusement raised the corner of his lips and lit his eyes. “Let’s go.” He tugged his phone from his pocket and pressed a number. “James, we’re ready.” He gave the address outside the bar, and moments later, the driver pulled up.
