Be Bad For Me(8)
"I get the feeling that I'll be very disappointed if I don't talk to you again," Jordan said, removing the paper coaster from under her bottled water. "Do you have a pen in your purse?"
"Are you asking me for my number?" she said, reaching into her clutch purse for an ink pen. She would have never guessed that in a million years that his sexy ass would ask her for her phone number. First of all, she only thought men that looked that good only existed in the movies or in the magazines, not in a regular nightclub in Atlanta.
"No," he said, taking the pen. "I'm going to give you mine."
She grinned and blushed. "So, you don't want my number in exchange? What if I don't call you?"
"You will," he said, scribbling his digits on the coaster. "Besides, I already have your number."
"Where from?" she asked, scrunching up her nose.
"Don't worry about all that." He folded the coaster in two and handed her it to her.
She took it and placed it down in her purse. She slid off her bar stool and stood up, preparing to leave. He stood up also and she could have fainted when he reached out with his hands and touched her arms. His muscular body toppled over her at least five inches. He was so close she could smell his cologne.
She looked up into his eyes and whispered, "Nice to meet you … Jordan." Before, he could say anything in return she turned on her heels and disappeared into the crowd in search of Denise.
Chapter 5
It was Sunday morning and she had just gotten off the phone with her aunt. Her aunt lived only forty five minutes away from her, but as Annette started working more and more on finding a full time job, they began seeing less and less of each other. They called each other at least twice a week. Annette loved her aunt dearly as she was the only mother that Annette had ever really known. Since her mother died when she was only four years old, she could hardly remember her. Her aunt adored her anyway like a mother would. At a very young age, her aunt found out that she could never have kids. This affected the way she felt about men and discouraged her from having committed relationships with men and she never married. Her aunt dated men while she was growing up, but as soon as the relationship with them would get to where the men wanted to come around all the time, she would separate herself from them. Her aunt was still happy, nonetheless, and she showered herself with shopping sprees, vacations, and extravagant furnishings and remodeling of her home.
For Annette, Sunday afternoons were spent dusting and cleaning her apartment even though millions of other people were probably resting in front of their television sets. Well, she'd get to that later tonight, but first she wanted to see a sparkling, clean apartment. Her thoughts wandered off to the events of the night before as she moved back and forth around her apartment with a feather duster. She hadn't spoken to Anthony since their fight on the dance floor. She wasn't surprised that she hadn't heard from him this morning either. Anthony was pretty wasted, so he was probably getting over his hangover right about now. After an argument, they always made up in two days or less. She had been so embarrassed last night in front of all those people at the club the way Anthony called her out for nothing making her look like a ho. Yes, she agreed that Terrell had overstepped his boundaries by ignoring her protests and touching her inappropriately on the dance floor. Before she could curse Terrell's ass out, Anthony came out of nowhere. This wasn't the first time that Anthony had embarrassed her in front of a bunch of people. Anthony's jealousy had almost caused them to break up once before.
A while back, they had taken a trip down to Savannah for the St. Patrick's Day celebration with a group of friends. They were all having a good time, walking up and down River Street through the crowds. Her feet hurt from standing and walking around on two-inch heels for over two hours and she was stumbling everywhere from drinking so much Vodka. At the time, Bianca couldn't help her either because she was just as drunk. They were on their way back to the hotel when she told everyone that her feet were tired and she didn't think that she could make it to the hotel. Anthony made the comment that she should take off her heels and maybe she could walk a little better. One of the guys that they were with grabbed her arm as she was bending down to remove her heels and told her that there was no way he was going to let her walk barefoot out in the streets. Something about broken glass bottles and dirt. He picked her up in his arms and began to carry her as they walked along the streets. When Anthony saw this, he was outraged. The guy was so scared that he put her back down instantly. Leroy was her savior again as he prevented Anthony from knocking the guy unconscious. Needless to say, she walked on her heels the rest of the way to their hotel room and she and Anthony went to bed mad at each other. She had come to realize that Anthony was jealous because he didn't want anybody else to have her. He thought that he was the only one entitled to touch her or even talk to her in a certain way. She didn't know how many times she told Anthony that he had nothing to worry about and that she was his without a doubt. All she ever wanted was for Anthony to realize that she wanted to be with him more than anyone. If only he would grow up and realize that she was tired of playing the part of homegirl and play the part of girlfriend or even something more.
She remembered what Jordan had said at the club to her. You don't deserve that. She wondered what he meant by that. Jordan had seemed so sincere. For some reason, she wished that she had more time to talk to him. That night, he was very soft-spoken, polite, and had an interesting aura about him. She still couldn't figure out why she was so drawn to him sexually and mentally. She had never felt so intimate about someone she had never met and had only known for barely thirty minutes. He said he would be disappointed if they didn't talk again. Maybe he was just so caught up in the moment like her. Besides, that was last night and he probably forgot about her the moment he left the club. Jordan seemed way out of her league. She could tell that he was older and a little mature than guys that she would normally date or that would be attracted to her. That was why she was surprised that he approached her again at the end of the night. Annette didn't think that she would call him. It was too risky and she didn't want to risk her relationship with Anthony. Although, he did say that he already had her phone number, but she couldn't imagine how he could have gotten her number. Maybe Bianca had something to do with that. Bianca would have told her if she had shared her phone number with him. Everyone knew that Bianca and Anthony didn't get along with each other and she would probably start doing cartwheels if she and Anthony ever broke up.
Her cell phone began ringing. She hurried over to the kitchen counter where her cell phone was sitting. Speaking of the devil. It was Anthony. She couldn't believe that he was calling her so early in the afternoon. It usually took him all day to recover from his hangovers.
"Hi," she answered. She should have let it gone to voicemail to make him learn his lesson, but she didn't feel like being mad and fighting anymore.
"Hey, homegirl. You still mad at me?"
"What do you think?"
"I'm so sorry about all that last night. You know how I am about other dudes looking at you and disrespecting you like that."
Of course, she knew all too well how jealous he could get.
"I know. But you didn't have anything to worry about. Terrell didn't realize that I didn't want him dancing on me and before I could tell him, you came running over there acting a damn fool."
"Oh, so you know that dude, huh?" His voice was a little scornful.
"I know Terrell from high school."
"Oh, really … "
"Anthony, like I said, that is nothing you need to worry about."
"I know … besides … that dude ain't got nothin' on me. What you doing right now?" Anthony was cocky, no doubt. Confidence is what drew Annette to Anthony in the first place, but sometimes his cockiness got way out of hand.
"What I always do on Sundays. Cleaning house."
"Oh, yeah? You need to come over to my place and clean up, too, when you get done."
"Boy, you crazy. You're gonna be waiting for that to happen forever."
"That's messed up. Well, how about I come to you?"
"I don't know, Anthony. I am still a little mad at you from last night."
"That's why I want to make it up to you. I'm outside, you know."
"What?" She was surprised. What was he doing outside? "Outside my apartment?"
"Yeah, come open the door."
