Annette watched his lips as they moved and knew that she would remember the tone of his voice for a very long time. It was so masculine and smooth. She wanted to reach up and touch his Adam's apple and feel it vibrating while he talked.
"A'ight, man. Good lookin' out." Anthony smiled and stuck the card in his back pocket. "Can I buy you guys a bottle or something on the house?" The guy named Travis gestured no with his hands.
"And you know I'm already drinkin'," TJ said, raising up his glass of dark liquor. He sat down on the other side of Anthony and placed his glass on the small round table in front of them. The other guy, Travis, joined TJ, sitting next to him on the booth.
Before Jordon stepped back to take his seat, he looked at Annette and their eyes locked for what was about five seconds, but it seemed like an eternity to her. She hadn't realized she hadn't stopped looking at Jordan since the moment he appeared in front of her. The whole time she was looking at him, nearly drooling, she hadn't realized that he was looking at her, too.
Jordan broke the glance, backed up, and sat on the other side of the crescent shaped seat. He was facing her and Anthony, whether it was intentional or not, with only about three feet of space between them. Jordan had placed both arms on the back of the seat, nonchalantly. He was so tall that his legs appeared to be slightly cocked open, naturally, as he rested back on the seat.
Unsurprisingly, the substantial package did not disappear. She could hear Anthony next to her talking to TJ about motorcycles, but she didn't care. Who cared about motorcycles when this chocolate delight was sitting right in front of her? She tore her glance away and pretended to be fixing her dress. She hadn't even noticed that it had risen up so high, revealing the very tops of her thighs as she had leaned forward to shake hands. She crossed one leg over the other and smoothed the outfit over her thighs. She wished that she hadn't done anything, because she had drawn attention to her legs and when she looked up again, she saw that Jordan was staring at them. His grin was suggestive when he met her glance again. He looked away from her again and lifted one hand to the top of his head and smoothed it over the natural waves as if he were rubbing his head, in one slow motion. What she wouldn't give to rub his head, too. Suddenly, she felt hot and flustered.
She turned to Bianca and said, "Come with me to the restroom." Before getting up, she leaned over to Anthony and said she would be right back. He didn't even nod or acknowledge her because he was so deep in conversation with TJ. She grabbed Bianca's hand and pulled her along to the restrooms below.
When she was sure that she was out of sight, she let out the breath of air that she had been holding in.
"Oh, girl, TJ and his boys are fine as hell," Bianca started. "Did you see his cousin? That man looks so good I could just eat him up."
Annette smiled, relieved that she wasn't the only one drooling over Jordan.
"Yes, girl. I thought I was getting ready to drool all over my outfit. I had to get up out of there," she said, as they walked downstairs to the main level.
"Where did Denise go, by the way?"
"I haven't seen her since she got up to go talk to some guy she knew," They reached the bathroom, where there was a line of people outside the door.
"Oh, hell naw! I don't feel like waitin' in this line. Do you really need to go?"
"Girl, I needed to check my hair and makeup."
"Okay, but I'm not gonna be standin' in this line all night, though."
"Whatever," Annette rolled her eyes. "So, are you and TJ dating on the regular, now?"
"Kinda, sorta. When I met him, I kind of told him that I wasn't interested in a relationship. I didn't know he was such a good man."
"See, I told you. You should never think that all men are the same."
"Anyway, I'm trying to push little hints on him. Whatever it takes to let him know that I am now serious about a relationship."
It took her and Bianca thirty minutes of waiting in line to finally get in the bathroom to check their hair and makeup. After they were done, they went back up to the upper level. Bianca pulled her over to the bar and Annette ordered pink flamingos, a mixed drink, for both of them. When she walked back over to the booth area, she was a little disappointed that TJ's cousin had left and was no where in sight. Bianca took her seat beside TJ and Annette sat beside her. Anthony had disappeared, too, but she wasn't surprised. Some nights at the club, Anthony would leave her by herself the whole night. She spotted Denise and the guy she had pointed out to her earlier and waved her over. He looked much older than Denise, but he was looking pretty good nonetheless.
"Annette, this is Charles. Charles, this is my good girl friend, Annette," Denise introduced us before she took a seat next to me.
"Nice to meet you, Charles. How do you two know each other?"
"We were in the same public speaking class two years ago," Charles said.
"Oh, two years is a while and you two recognized each other?"
"Yeah, I couldn't forget that baby doll face of hers," Charles said, politely.
"Oh, yeah?" Denise smiled, looking up at him.
At that moment, she spotted Anthony standing over by the bar with Leroy and a bunch of other guys. A couple girls were also standing next to them. She knew Anthony better than that. He would never step to another female. At least not when she was around. He just wouldn't disrespect her like that. Anthony was pointing in her direction and talking to a guy that looked familiar. She'd met him before from somewhere, but she just couldn't pinpoint it. She took another sip of her drink and looked around the club, trying to find Jordan. She couldn't figure out why she couldn't keep her mind of Jordan and she didn't even know him. All she knew was his name and that he was a car salesman. And, of course, that he was the finest muthafucka that she had ever seen.
"Oh, girl! Come dance wit' me!" She heard Bianca scream out loud a popular song blared through the club speakers. Bianca grabbed her hands and before Annette could protest she pulled me out to the dance floor with her. It must have been everyone else's favorite song in the club because a bunch of other people crowded the dance floor. Since Bianca was so crunk, she followed along and they both began rocking their bodies and gyrating their hips to the beat. They were getting a lot of stares as a few females and males stopped dancing to admire their routine. When that song went off, another hit came on and they were almost smooched together as more people ran onto the dance floor. They began to get too much unwanted attention as a few guys moved in closer trying to dance behind them. One guy was so close she thought she felt him touch her on the ass. She moved a few steps forward and continued dancing without turning around. This guy didn't get the hint, because he moved behind her, his pelvis thrusting into her back. She turned around and was surprised when she saw the guy that Anthony had been standing with just a minute ago at the bar. Now, she knew where she knew him from. It was Terrell, a guy that she went to high school with a while back.
"Remember me?" He asked, grinning.
"Yeah, Terrell, right?" She continued moving to the beat.
"Yeah … you're Annette."
"When you graduated high school, I thought you went to go play basketball down in Florida."
"I did. I graduated last year. I'm back down here living with some friends of mine."
"Oh."
"So, how you been?" He was getting dangerously closer to her.
"Fine."
"Yeah, you are fine. You all grown up now, too." He eyed her body and the provocative outfit she had chosen to wear.
"Thank you."
He mumbled something else, but she couldn't make out what he said, so she just nodded her head. Maybe he would go away, so she could enjoy herself on the dance floor.
"Well, it was nice seeing you again," she yelled over the blaring music. She turned around to face Bianca again, who had two guys dancing with her. She continued dancing, moving my hips seductively to the beat like the song said, when she felt someone's groin area press up into her ass. She turned her head only this time and realized that Terrell still hadn't left her alone. She moved forward and wagged her fingers from side to side, indicating that she didn't want his pelvis all up on her ass. He ignored her and grabbed her waist and pulled her back onto his groin.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," she said, trying to pull herself forward, but the dance floor was too crowded.
"Why not? You like it, don't you?"
"Terrell, I'm not single."
"What! I can't hear you!" Terrell was yelling over the music and bending his head down closer to her face. His breathe smelled like hot mint and liquor. She scrunched up her nose.
