James took her hand. “I don’t need a wedding band on your finger, or a certificate to make you mine.”

He laughed along with her. “We’re something. Besides, we could never be married.”

“Why?”

She rested her head on his chest, laughing.

“Do you want me to leave?” Caleb asked, smiling as he entered the room.

Cora left the decision up to him.

“It’s your surprise. You can be the one who calls time to end it.” She dropped a kiss to his lips, and walked into the bathroom.

“She’s going to be your old lady?”

“Yeah, I’ve got the jacket ready to give her. I was thinking when the term ends in a couple of weeks, I’ll pick her up with it.”

“The boys will be riding out with you?”
