Jack furrowed his brows and studied my face for an explanation. Instead of verbalizing what I had to say, I pulled the positive pregnancy test from my purse, bracing myself for his reaction. It wasn't until he'd been staring at it for a full minute that he finally found it in himself to give me one.
"You're pregnant?"
I nodded, feeling a smile pull at my lips. We stared deep into each other's eyes for what felt like an eternity, but eventually the gap between us closed and our lips collided in a kiss so passionate it made my head spin.
Maybe Jada was right.
Maybe fate was finally on my side after all.
~ EPILOGUE ~
"You may now kiss the bride!"
Jack smiled before leaning in to press his soft lips to mine. He rested one hand on my swollen abdomen and the other on my waist, pulling me in close as all our friends and family watched on. Our parents had been surprised when we first broke the news of our engagement to them, but they were quick to admit that it wasn't entirely out of leftfield.
"You couldn't look more beautiful right now," Jack spoke up, leading me out of the church to where a limo was waiting to take us to the reception. "I'm the luckiest man on earth."
It must have been the hundredth time he'd told me so in the past hour, but I wasn't complaining. The fact that he still found me desirable when I was seven months pregnant with twins was nothing short of a miracle.
And he thought he was the lucky one!
At the reception, Jack led me out onto the dance floor for our first dance as husband and wife and flashed me a smile he'd all but reserved for me. "Have I told you how beautiful you look?"
I laughed. "Only about a million times."
"Well I can't help it," Jack said. "Pregnancy suits you." He proceeded to spin us in a circle, but I got dizzy right away and tightened my hold on him to make him stop.
"He's kicking more than usual tonight," I explained, resting his hand on my stomach for him to feel.
Jack's entire face lit up when his palm was met with a light kick. "He's probably just happy," he said, meeting eyes with me again. "It's not everyday that his parents get hitched."
"Well he'd be even happier if you told me where you're taking me on our honeymoon," I told him. "You know I don't like surprises..."
"I know," Jack said. "But you'll like this one, I promise."
I must not have looked too confident though, because he was quick to lean in and kiss away my uncertainty.
"Alright," I said, nodding in acquiesce. "So long as it's somewhere within reach of a hospital. You remember what Dr. Hendry said about being prepared for anything. I just … I don't want to take any risks."
"It is," Jack assured me. "Don't worry. I've got it all covered."
"And I'll have to let Kelly know where I am in case of an emergency," I added, referencing my new assistant. Malika's weak attempt at blackmailing me had failed. I'd gone to the board just like I'd said I would, and all it took was them looking at a few fraudulent expense reports for them to kick her to the curb. Whether she and Peter were still together was really none of my concern, but the lack of a wedding ring on his finger as of late told me that they weren't.
"I can't wait to get you out of this dress," Jack spoke up, pulling me from my thoughts.
I fought a smile when I felt his hands drift down to my behind. "Down boy," I whispered. "The in-laws are watching."
"Oh but they won't be soon," Jack purred, his breath sending shivers down my spine. His voice was thick with innuendo, and it took everything in me not to pounce on him right then and there.
"I love you," I said instead, melting into him as we continued swaying.
Jack looked down at me and smiled. "I love you too," he said, kissing the top of my forehead. "I always have."
THE END.
