Ava's Mate(29)

By:Hazel Gower

Kirby screamed at Ava, “Get Faith and Lexie and come to the back exit with me. I have an idea.”

Minions flew above Ava. Four of them grabbed hold of Kirby, two on the arms, and two on her legs, lifting, and flying her into the air.

Ava ran to help Faith who was fighting in the middle of demons covered in blood. Faith was getting too pregnant to fight and kept taking hits to the head and legs. The demons seemed to avoid her belly, like they wanted her and the child alive and intact.

Ava yelled over the terrified screams around them to Faith. “You need to get to Kirby now. Swap positions with me, and get as many of the girls as you can to her. Run now, even if all you do is save yourself.”

Ava picked Faith up and threw her. She landed on a pile of bodies close to where Kirby was. A demon’s horn punctured through Ava’s back, and big, thorn covered arms came around her. Lexie screamed in front of her as demons grabbed her and stomped out the door.

Slipping from the demon’s embrace, Ava grunted as she pushed the horn out. Frantically, she jumped and stabbed her way through the mayhem trying to get to Lexie. Gunshots exploded around them as the bikers fired at the demonic creatures. Sirens could be heard coming closer, but Ava didn’t have time to hope they would slow the demons down. She needed to be faster to get to Lexie, so she fully changed in to a wolf. In this form she was more nimble and could easily get around and avoid the demons’ spiked tails and hands.

Coming upon the demon with Lexie in his arms outside the bar, Ava first bit his leg, then transformed from her wolf mode into her werewolf form. Hair covered her body and she grew an extra three feet, making her look a lot like the scary werewolves from the movies. But she was too late. Behind her the demons came out of the club dragging Sandra, who looked barely alive. Ava didn’t know who to help. She didn’t have a chance to help either woman as demon arms wrapped around her.

Ava tried to pull against her three captures, screaming and yelling until a demon covered her mouth and blocked her nose. Black started to surround her and she finally succumbed to it, falling into oblivion.

Ava woke in a large, dark, cold room, chained to the wall. She experimentally tried to break them until she heard Sandra’s raspy voice. “Don’t bother. Save your energy. I’ve been trying since I woke to break out of them.”

Ava’s vision adjusted to the dark, her wolf coming through to help her look around the large room. “Where’s Lexie? I can’t see her. Did they get anyone else? I tried to get everyone to Kirby.”

“We got all the humans, bar Lexie I think, to safety. At least I hope we did. I don’t know what happened to Eve, she was beside me and then a moment later I couldn’t see her. There were too many of them.” Tears slid down her face. “They’ve been very careful with us. Since arriving, none of the demons have given killing blows to us. Something’s not right some—”

A huge, twenty something foot demon came striding in, dragging a girl on a chain behind him. The girl looked up. Her eyes widened, and a small grin spread across her face.

The demon yanked the woman’s chain so she stood beside him. “Welcome, my new pets. I’d like you to meet the reason you’re here.” He kicked the girl forward. “I will leave you to get more aquatinted.” The demon paused and glared at them. “Just don’t kill her, or I will punish you like the dogs you are.” He stomped out of the room, leaving the boney girl standing in the middle of the room.

The girl sat on the floor. “I’m sorry, I had no choice.” Her voice turned to a whisper. “This is not the vision I saw though.” She nodded to Sandra. “Her or the human. They weren’t supposed to get caught. So they changed fate, and when that happens…” She grinned and bounced up and down. “If I don’t make it, tell Griffen that I’m very sorry and I was looking forward to meeting him.”

Ava stared at the girl who she could now see was a woman. “What’s your name?”

“Pet, my name’s Pet.”

Sandra sobbed, and Ava bit her lip and took a deep breath. “No. What was your name before they captured you?”

The woman cocked her head to the side. “I wasn’t captured. My mother was. They told me I killed her when she gave birth to me.”

“How do you know about my brother Griffen?”

A beautiful smile came over her face. “Oh, I see him all the time. He is one of the many paths I could go. I would like that. He’s…” She trailed off and went into a trancelike state the same as Faith did when she was having a vision.
