Ava heard Kirby mutter under her breath, “You’ve got to be joking.” Kirby looked exhausted as she turned to Faith. “You see everything these days, how could you not ‘see’ us breaking down on our way back from clubbing?”
As they all walked further in the pub, most of the men turned to leer at them. Faith bit her bottom lip and glanced around them.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t see this. I saw something very different. I don’t like this.” Faith shivered and hugged herself. “Kane and the boys are on their way, but they’re a good forty-five minutes away.”
Eve smiled at everyone. “Come on, guys. This is an adventure.” Eve put her arm around Faith and grabbed her hand, but Ava wasn’t in the mood for one of her sister’s adventures.
“Look, let’s just get a seat, order some ginger ale, cokes, and wait for the boys to turn up.”
Eve glared at her but Ava didn’t care. “You have all become boring since mating.”
All eight of them sat in a corner both and ordered drinks. They just sat there in silence. Something didn’t feel right. All the human mates seemed to have serious faces, like they were concentrating, and they kept looking around. Ava glanced at Sandra who was doing the same as her, looking at Kirby, Faith, Lexie, Stacy, and Sara.
“Ava, something’s off,” Sandra muttered. Eve seemed to notice it as well when the drinks were placed in front of them and the humans didn’t move.
Kirby was rubbing her head. “It hurts, they’re all yelling.”
Sara groaned, “Where’s the water?”
Lexie scared Ava. “So much evil coming, stomping on the ground.”
Ava turned to see Sandra talking on her mobile. Just then Remy walked in and came straight over to them. Ava turned to Eve who muttered, “Surprise, Remy’s been talking to me, she’s ready to come home.”
Faith glared at Remy. “I can’t even look at you right now. What Ava and I have had to do the last couple of months…” Faith shook her head. “Arden looks barely alive.” Faith turned her back on her best friend Remy.
Remy turned to her and Ava couldn’t hold back the growl, she was so angry at Remy for what she’d done to Arden. “Don’t even look at me.” Ava looked around at the other girls who all seemed to be in their own world. Ava turned back to Faith and swore at the expression on her face. “She’s having a vision.” Ava waved her hands in front of Faith’s face. “Fuck, she’s not coming out of it, and we’re in a public place.”
Ava was too entranced in Faith to notice that some of the men had come over. One touched her hand. “Hey, sexy. Want to come home with me?”
Ava turned to see a stocky man with long hair tied in a ponytail, a bandana on his head, and covered in tats from head to toes. Eve grinned at her and nodded in Faith’s direction, silently telling her she’d handle the men and Ava should look after Faith. Eve turned to the men and muttered, “Oh sorry, I don’t do humans.”
Ava couldn’t help chuckling at the way her sister got the man’s attention. He frowned and cocked his head to the side. “What the hell do you mean? You one of those weird chicks who believe in aliens and stuff?”
Eve giggled and got up out of her seat. Winking at Ava, she mouthed I’ll distract them. She turned back to the men with a smile. “Humans can’t keep up with me. How about I show you what I mean?”
Eve linked arms with two of the guys, winking at them. As she walked away Faith came shooting up out of her vision. “We need to get out and hide now.” Faith stood up and started running to the door, Lexie close on her heels. They froze and ducked to hide when the pub’s doors opened and zombies and minions poured inside.
Ava thanked every god she could think of that she had gone to training and now carried the ice blades on her thanks to the last club incident. She reached down, grabbed the ones in her boots, and stood in front of the table protecting Sara, Stacy, and Kirby.
Ava felt Kirby lean on her to stand on the table so she could focus on the gray winged pig like creatures, the minions. She screamed at them to stop, and they froze for a moment, then started attacking the zombies.
The whole club started to shake as demons barged through the doors. Over twenty massive demons came in, and the humans shot at them, which caused the demons to grow and laugh with the extra energy.
Faith and Lexie started running back to their little group until they were cut off by the chaos around them. Sandra ran to help them. Ava focused on making sure the demons didn’t get to Kirby, Sara, Remy, and Stacy. Sara manipulated the beer and other beverages, shooting them at the demons’ chests. Remy threw fire at the demons and went to help Faith but Ava grabbed her and yelled, “No. You’re not going anywhere. Keep firing at the demons. I’ll help.”
