Asmodeus(40)

By:Dawn McClure

She was lying again. Her black hair fanned about her, creating the perfect image of sweet innocence. But her eyes told a different story. She was not, and would not, be forthcoming with the truths she held. "What did you hear?"

She took too long in answering.

"I didn't hear anything. You don't with a locating spell. You just see the surroundings."

Unable to stop himself, he leaned down and gently bit the side of her neck, savoring the warm taste of her. The feel of her body beneath his. "Is that so?"

She squirmed beneath him, definitely liking what he was doing. He had to stop himself, but couldn't find the strength to wrench his mouth from her sweet, warm flesh. She was soft… forbidden.

He put her wrists in one hand and she sucked in her breath when he found the tender juncture of her thighs with his free hand. "I didn't hear anything."

His lips traveled from her throat to the sensitive spot just below her ear. "Right. This coming from a witch who denies being a witch."

She brought her right leg up over his hip, opening up for him, arching her back to give him better access. "I'm an aspiring witch."

He ran his hand over the soft silk covering her thigh, teasing her. "And your display earlier? You were trying to seduce me, as you are doing now. The question is, why?"

She turned her head to kiss him again and though it was nigh impossible, he pulled back before their lips met. If he didn't put distance between himself and Brianna he would lose control of the situation. "Trying to avoid the question?"

Her look of seduction melted away, replaced by pure annoyance. "I guess I'm trying to figure out why I should be answering your questions when you think I'm your enemy anyway. You aren't going to believe anything I say."

"I will start believing you when you begin speaking the truth. Until then we have reached a hiatus." He summoned the handcuffs he had seen in Naberius's basement, slipping them over her wrists. Before she had time to digest that action, he put a grounding necklace around her neck.

She tried bucking him off, thrusting her hips against his. "What are you doing?"

His cock hardened painfully. "Taking out an insurance policy."

"Take these off."

He watched her struggle against her constraints. "Like hell I will." He slid off her and grabbed the remote from where it had fallen from his hands. He turned on The Golden Girls.

So much for passion.

"Asmodeus. You can't expect to leave me like this throughout the night."

"It is the only way I will get some sleep. Now quiet down. I like this television."

He barely managed not to laugh as she tugged, pulled and jerked the cuffs until he thought she would break her wrists.

"How can I sleep like this? It's painful."

Asmodeus lost his temper, the humor in the situation gone. "You want pain? Keep fucking with me. Those cuffs are more for your benefit than you realize."

Brianna yanked a few more times before giving up. She'd bet the skin on her wrists was red and chafed by now. Damn. She should have known she couldn't lie to a demon and get away with it.

She tried to relax. Fighting with the restraints wasn't getting her anywhere. "Okay. What if I told you the truth? Would you take them off then?"

"No."

Oh, you have got to be kidding. "Why the hell not?"

He turned off the television and the bedside lamp. "Because I need to get some sleep."

"I'll lose circulation. I can't sleep like this."

"You will live."

She yanked one last time, flinching when pain shot up her arms. She was so mad she was close to tears. "I should have figured I wouldn't get any compassion from a man who had none to start with."

"You know nothing about me, so you base your assumptions on nothing." In the darkness his voice was like a physical caress. It sent shivers over her skin.

"I know more than you're aware of," she snapped. She immediately wished she hadn't said that as he turned the light back on. Asmodeus leaned over her. His eyes were changing from light green to yellow singed with black, a sure sign he was pissed.

His face was only inches from her own. "What do you think you know?"

She didn't answer him. She wasn't that stupid.

"Well, you just answered my previous question. Before you start judging me, which you have already done, think of one thing. Had you been in my place, what would you have done? They couldn't have been saved. If there had been something I could have done to save my boys I would have done it, consequences be damned. If you would have handled the situation differently please do tell. I've been playing that night over and over in my head throughout the years and I've never come up with something that would have brought my boys back to me. You complain about pain? You know nothing of pain."
