Arden’s Mate(8)

Remy wasn’t sure who Logan was, but she thought Kirby had a brother named Logan, and she trusted Lexie. She tried to shush the women, but they didn’t listen. Getting frustrated, she screamed, “Oh, for Christ’s sake, shut up. They’re the good guys, and if you keep your whining up I’m going to fucking knock you out.” Remy had no idea how she’d do that but she’d figure something out.

A hole opened up above them, and two men fell down, rolling to the side. Arden jumped down and didn’t even gaze around, he just came straight to her and gathered her to him in a hug, kissing every inch of her face.

For a moment she let herself bask in his affections. “Yeah, yeah, you missed me. Go get something to break the chains so we can get out of here.”

Remy watched as Arden tried unsuccessfully to break the chains. Griffen jumped down the hole with bolt cutter and other tools, and soon she was free and in Arden’s arms again.

Arden looked like shit, but right now she knew she didn’t look very good either. She took deep breaths in of him. He smelt amazing, like freshly cut grass and sea spray. Remy felt safe, and she knew at that moment she wouldn’t ever leave him again.

Remy helped the other women and was happy when they were out of the ground. As soon as she saw Eve she ran to her and hugged her. Arden didn’t leave her side and snarled and growled at anyone who tried to touch her or take her away.

The werewolves saved everyone, but instead of fighting and killing the demons they left. Remy could tell they didn’t want to, but they had too many people to protect and not enough shifters.

The ride home was quiet, and Remy just hoped that everyone forgave her for running.

Lucifer ripped the smaller demon’s head off and roared his displeasure at the cowering subjects in front of him. The headless body convulsed before him.

“You let them all get away. Those animals took everyone.” He pulled the heart out of the demon closest to him. “I want them back. I wanted that new alpha wolf dead. Up the numbers in the human world and take every supernatural you can.” He stood as hundreds of demons stared up at him. “I want more hideouts on earth. I want the shifters wiped out.” He narrowed his eyes on each of his high demons. “I have a plan, but we need a zombie army. Find out where the werewolves live and watch them. I want pregnant mates. I want female werewolves. The women we have are only producing one child, I need more.”

He walked toward the exit, he couldn’t look at the pathetic bunch anymore. They had cost him a huge setback by losing all those paranormals and the two female shifters.

Stopping at the door, he turned and glared at the still cowering bunch. “I want you to leave Pet alone. Let her think she is free. Then when we have what I have asked you to get I want Pet back. Do anything to get her. Do not kill her. That would be too nice.”

With that, he walked out of the room and opened a gate to one of his many dimensions. He needed to relax, he needed to kill.

Chapter 1

Arden held Remy tight, and she knew he wasn’t going to let her go in case she ran again. Remy knew she’d done wrong, and she shouldn’t have run. But Arden didn’t believe her when she said she wouldn’t do it again. It didn’t help that Derek and Dickson arrived, telling Arden and everyone that they’d found her and made her come home. Remy swore if she ever saw those two again she would give them a good kick in the balls.

Arden looked like shit. Remy remembered a kind, clean, handsome man, but now Arden was dirty, covered in hair, and all hard. His eyes scared her—they’d lost their soft brown color and now looked almost all black. Remy knew she’d done this to him. Her heart cracked, and she told herself for the millionth time what a selfish fool she’d been.

They sat in Kane’s family room, waiting for news on Faith, who had gone into early labor. Faith needed her and she needed to get to her, but Arden wouldn’t let her go. The more she moved the tighter his hold got.

“Let me go. I have to check on Faith.”

Arden’s answering growl sent a cold shiver down her spine. He sounded like a feral dog. He shook beneath her, and she whimpered at the rage that radiated off him. They sat for another hour on the lounge while Remy struggled to get free of him so she could go to Faith.

Finally a ragged, worried looking Kane made an appearance. “I’ve stopped the baby from coming for now. She’s on bed rest for the remainder of this pregnancy.” Kane came forward and glared at Remy. “Get her out of my house, Arden. She’s not welcome anymore.”

Remy stilled her struggles against Arden, fearful of what her actions had caused and what she would miss because of her selfish ways. Remy tried not to flinch as she looked at Kane. “You can’t kick me out. I’m Faith’s friend.” She wanted to say best friend, but after what had happened and what Faith had said to her in the biker bar, she wasn’t sure anymore.
