Arden’s Mate(49)

By: Hazel Gower

He tweaked her now pointed nipples. His girl was getting turned on. “Who says? You seem to like me giving a show to everyone just fine.”

She gasped and her eyed widened. “You’re an arse.” She glanced around and her gaze narrowed, glaring at whoever was watching.

He couldn’t resist teasing her some more. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, “That may be, but I’m your arse and you love me.”

Remy snorted, turning to look at him. She shook her head and walked away, crossing her arms over her pointed nipples. Arden looked around to see a couple of people had watched the scene—an older couple who smiled his way, and a young guy who gave him the thumbs-up. As he turned to his other side he spotted a group of young women not much older than Remy staring at him. Aha, they were who got her lethal stare. He winked at them and followed his mate.

Arden found her ahead of him, going into the shopping center. Remy didn’t stop for him, instead she walked faster. He caught up to her and reached for her hand, holding it in his own.

“Did you go say hello to your fan club?”

Arden laughed as he realized Remy was jealous of the group of girls. “I didn’t go to them. Don’t worry, I would have fought them off to come to you.”

“Arrogant wolf.”

“Ah, I do like your jealous side.”

“I am not jealous. They were probably looking at you and thinking what a tool you are and how unlucky I am.”

He laughed. “That’s why you gave them such a pleasant glare.”

“Stupid werewolf genes,” she mumbled. Remy tugged her hand from his and stormed down the walkway.

Arden caught up to her and kept pace. He wasn’t usually the fun, playful, joking guy, but Remy brought out all kinds of things in him. He was more relaxed and happy than he could ever remember being. As he followed his mate he knew the fates had chosen well for him.

The shifters from overseas arrived over the next couple of weeks. Arden was busy helping them get settled, and Remy did what she could to help. Once they’d all arrived and set themselves up, Remy and Ava didn’t have anything extra to do to keep their minds off being cooped up and not allowed to go anywhere without a bunch of bodyguards. Remy knew she and Ava weren’t the only women being slowly driven crazy.

One night while the men were out fighting Remy went to visit Pet, with Ava and a girl Remy had met once before named Lexie.

“Has anything been done to find who this traitor is?” Lexie grumbled. “I love Duke, but I need some ‘me’ time, proper girl time at a day spa without a bunch of men hovering over us.”

“Oh, I hear you. I thought mating a human I would be able to get away with more, but I was so wrong.” Ava rubbed her little tummy. “Logan is driving me batty. I think if this overprotection business continues these babies will be without a father because their mummy wrapped her hands around their daddy’s neck and…” Ava trailed off when Lexie and Remy laughed.

“You are all lucky. I barely leave this house. Griffen is terrified the demons will find me and want me back. He is also selective of who he lets me see, because he’s worried that people will retaliate for what I did when I was with the demons.”

Reaching over, Remy hugged Pet. “You did what you did to survive.” She squeezed Pet. “If anyone ever gives you trouble tell me, or better yet tell Ava—no one messes with her.”

Ava laughed. “Oh, how I wish that statement was true. But Remy is right, Pet. You have to stick up for yourself. If that doesn’t work, you have us, your friends, who’ll help.”

Tears ran down Pet’s cheek. “I’m so happy you found me. I’m feeling very lucky right now.”

All four of them hugged each other, squeezing tight. As Remy pulled away she noticed Pet had gone into a trance. Remy hoped this vision was a good one like the one Pet had told her about her baby.

Ava sat back on the sofa and sighed. “Is it wrong I’m glad she has visions too? I’ve noticed since Pet’s come Faith isn’t having as many. She’s enjoying her son like she should be.”

Remy had noticed what Ava was saying too. Remy hadn’t spent a bunch of time with Faith like she used to, but with Faith busy with Kane, her brand new baby, and Bengie, Remy was surprised Faith had time for anything let alone visiting friends and socializing.

“I noticed it too,” Lexie said. “I know I’m not as close to Faith as you two are, but those last couple of weeks before the baby came she was having so many visions, I don’t think she knew when she was in the real time.” Lexie looked worried that she’d said something wrong.
