Arden’s Mate(25)

By: Hazel Gower

“I know. Can we go back to the house now? I need to get properly dressed.”

Arden palmed her arse. “I like you in what you’re wearing.”

Remy shook her head and swatted his hands away, walking around to the passenger side. “Oh, I know you do.”

Grayson was right on time. He walked into the training room like he owned it. His feet looked like they barely touched the ground with each step. He drew attention with his long, blond hair and lithe, muscular body.

Remy knew she shouldn’t be staring so intently at him. She could hear Arden grumbling behind her about stupid, vain cats and them always thinking they owned everything, and he shouldn’t have worried about asking the arrogant cat to help.

“I think your mate likes the putty cat.” Jamie chuckled.

Arden’s mumbling snarl was directed at Jamie.

Remy rolled her eyes. “Shut it, Jamie. Stop stirring Arden up. I can’t help my reaction. I’d have to be blind not to notice Grayson.” She grinned when Arden spun her around and locked his lips to hers in a caveman kiss that showed her whose she really was…his.

“Oh, gross. I have to put up with another couple making out all the time. I should get like extra hazard pay or at least free shrink appointments for all the shit I see. I’m traumatized.”

Remy pulled away from Arden and glared over her shoulder at Jamie. “You’re just miserable because you’re not getting any. Poor little puppy.”

“Hey, Arden, control your mate.” Jamie narrowed his eyes at her. “I’ll have you know I get some. Well, not in the last couple of months, but I so could if I wanted to. I’m a redheaded alpha. Women love hot…” Jamie flexed his muscles. “Muscular…alpha redheads.”

She giggled as Jamie raised his eyebrows up and down suggestively, flexed his muscles, and did stupid poses.

“What the hell is our brother doing?” Rane said as he walked over to them with Tray, Sebastian, Cullen, and a smirking Devlin.

“He’s showing us how he gets women,” Grayson said. “I can see why he’s having a dry spell.” Grayson shook his head. “You need to come by my pub. I’ll show you how it’s done. I don’t think I’ve ever sleep with the same woman twice.”

“Oh my God. You’re a true cat…a tomcat.” Remy laughed at her own joke, and all the wolves chuckled, even Arden.

Arden explained what they’d discussed the other day for the people that weren’t there. Then they walked out to see the recruits who were fighting one another.

“Grayson, glad you’re joining our team.” Rane gave a grim-faced nod to Grayson. “We need all the help we can get. I want you in your half-change mode. Tray, if you change and fight Grayson I can show the recruits some of the ways we train.”

Grayson nodded, and Sebastian turned and left.

“Oh, and don’t go easy on each other,” Rane added. “Let’s find out who the better fighter is—wolf or cat.”

Remy shivered as a gleam came into both Tray and Grayson’s eyes. They shoved their clothes off, and the air shimmered around them as their bodies stretched and lengthened. Moments later a half-changed wolf and what looked like a massive, blond cat-man with spots, circled one another like they were assessing each weakness the other had.

Sebastian came back with a group of men dressed in army uniforms. “From now on you will be fighting in groups of two, and against us in our half-changed mode. We will not be going easy on you anymore. If you cannot defeat us in our half-modes then you have no chance against demons.” Sebastian’s voice was loud and clear. “Today you are going to be partnered up and I want you to watch the fight before us, to learn how we fight and what we expect.” Sebastian gave the half-changed shifters a nod and they attacked each other.

As Remy watched the fight in front of her, it dawned on her that Arden hadn’t really fought with Grayson the other day. She turned to him and said, “This makes what you did with Grayson the other day look like a pat on the back.”

Arden leaned down and nipped her ear before he whispered, “You’re going to learn all my secrets. Soon I won’t be able to get away with anything.”

She snorted. “Ha, you don’t get away with things now.”

Remy shivered as he nibbled on her neck and moved back up to her ear. “I get away with more than you think.”

Her stupid body heated up and totally ignored all the people around them. She shouldn’t be getting turned on when they were surrounded by men and two shifters fought in front of them. She elbowed Arden and stepped away from the heat of his body. “Shh, I’m trying to watch this.” She glanced over her shoulder and saw a cheeky grin on Arden’s face as he stared at her. Turning back around, Remy shook her head and watched the brutal fight.
