April Fools(24)

By:Karli Perrin

"Well it's not true. End of story."

"I'd better go, I don't want to be late for class."

As I watched her walk away, my gut instinct was telling me that something had happened between them. I just hoped that she knew what she was getting herself in to.

Chapter Sixteen

I finished the rest of my classes and got back to Lucy's to find Brody sitting at the kitchen table. His leg was bouncing up and down like it does whenever he's nervous.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked.

"April, will you sit down? I have something to tell you."

A knot formed in my stomach, "Oh my god, are the rumours true?"

"What? Has it already got out?"

"I didn't believe it, I thought it was a lie."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence."

"How could you?"

His face fell, "What? Are you not happy for me?"

"Honestly? No, I'm not. I don't think you're ready for it, you're too young."

"What does age have to do with it? I've wanted this for a long time, you know that."

"Since when?"

"Since I was a kid."

"Why didn't you tell me before now?"

"I only found out today."

I sat down and took a deep breath, "I can't believe that I'm an auntie."

"What are you talking about?"

"Your baby! I don't even know what it's called. Is it a boy or a girl?"

He jumped up, "What the fuck are you talking about? You're scaring me now."

"Wait, I thought that's what we've just been talking about..."

"I sure as shit wasn't talking about any baby." He held his hands up, "I'm always careful. Every single time."

"There are rumours going around that you got some girl called Leah pregnant."

He started laughing, "Oh my god and you thought it was true. I wondered why you were being such a bitch."

"Hang on, so it's not true?"

He took a few deep breaths and managed to stop laughing, "No, Leah is some psycho groupie. She wanted to have sex with me but I said no. I've never even touched her. A couple of weeks later, she got pregnant and told everybody that it was my kid. I've even taken a DNA test to prove that it's not mine."

"Oh thank god, so you're not a complete idiot after all."

"Have a little faith."

"Well what was I supposed to think? You were acting all nervous and then you said that you wanted to talk to me about something."

"I do, I have some awesome news."

I placed my hand over my heart, "I don't know if I can take any more."

A huge grin spread across his face, "Well you're going to have to because you're looking at a signed artist."

"What?"

"The band! We've been signed!"

We both started jumping up and down. "Oh my god! Are you being serious?"

"Deadly fucking serious" he replied as he picked me up and spun me around.

I half laughed, half screamed, "Congratulations! I'm so proud of you!" My head was spinning when he placed me back down, "Oh my god, my brother is going to be a rock star! Tell me everything!"

I knew that I would remember this moment for the rest of my life. The moment when my brother's life was about to change forever. One day, I would sit my grandchildren down and tell them all about this moment.

"I got the call about an hour ago, they want us to fly to America to meet with the record company and lay down some test tracks."

"That's awesome, when are you going?"

"Saturday."

"Woah, that's only two days away."

"I know, they said that we could be there for a couple of months. They're paying for a private villa and everything."

"I'm definitely coming to visit you, you can fly me out in the record labels private jet."

He chuckled, "Hell yes, only the best for my little sister. I still can't believe it. I mean, we're getting signed to the same record company as the D-Bags and The Mighty Storm. How fucking awesome is that?"

I stood up, "Oh. My. God. You're going to meet Kellan Kyle! Will you get me his autograph?"

"Why do you need his autograph when you can have mine?"

I raised my eyebrow, "Dude, it's Kellan Kyle."

"This isn't real."

"It is real and you deserve it, I'm so happy for you." His mood seemed to darken. "Hey, what's wrong?"

"I'm just worried about leaving people behind."

I sighed, "If you're talking about Mum then stop worrying. She's forty eight years old, it's about time she looked after herself. Don't you dare feel guilty, you've already sacrificed too much for her. This is your time to shine."

"When did you get so wise?"

"The day I was born."
