April Fools(16)

He winked, "You can thank me later."

I waited until I heard Lucy's bedroom door close before speaking, "I don't think it's a good idea."

"Why not?"

"Me and Lukas...we have a history."

The muscles in his jaw tensed, "What happened?"

"We're better off as friends."

"Who ended it?"

"Me."

"Did he hurt you?"

Yes but I also hurt him.

"No."

"You had to think about that one."

"It wasn't meant to be, we've moved on."

"What did Lucy mean when she said that he's doing better? Has that got something to do with you?"

I paused for a moment, trying to find the right words. "The fire at my house...he was trapped inside."

Brody's eyes widened, "He's the guy?" I nodded. "No wonder his name sounded familiar. Okay, we're definitely going, I need to shake his hand."

A thousand things were running through my mind but there was one thought that stood out the most. My brother was about to meet Lukas before meeting Isaac. It might not be a big deal to other people but it was to me. It just didn't seem right.

I sighed, "Okay but I want to go somewhere else first."

Chapter Eleven

An hour later, all three of us walked into Sienna's.

"What are we doing here?" Lucy whispered.

"I wanted a drink before we go to see Lukas" I lied.

She nodded, "I understand."

I couldn't see Isaac anywhere. I called him a few times before we set off but he didn't answer. He probably wasn't even here, making this a wasted trip.

"What can I get for you?" The bartender asked Brody.

"I'll have a beer. Ladies?"

"Red wine please" I replied, keeping an eye out for Isaac.

"Lucy?"

"I'm good, thanks."

"That's good to know but what do you want to drink?"

"Nothing, I'm good."

Brody turned to the bartender, "Two red wines, please."

"I hope you didn't just order me a drink."

"Red wine isn't really my thing and I'm not about to get my sister wasted so..."

"I won't drink it."

"What kind of student are you?" he asked.

"One that actually studies."

I tuned them both out when I saw Isaac walk out from the back room, followed closely by Abbie. She had a huge grin on her face as she whispered something to him. He ran a hand through his hair before turning away from her. He froze when his eyes locked onto mine. Abbie's grin turned even bigger.

Lucy nudged me, "Earth to April."

I shook my head, "Sorry, what?"

"I asked if you knew that Mr Sharpe worked here?"

"Um yeah, he mentioned it in one of our meetings. I don't think they get paid much for being a personal tutor."

"He's so hot."

"Oh please, he's just a pretty boy" Brody replied.

"That's my point."

My heart felt like it was going to hammer its way out of my chest. The look on Abbie's face had completely thrown me for a loop. "I'll be back in a minute, I'm just going to the Ladies room."

Brody nodded, "I'll get a table, Lucy can help me carry the drinks."

I hurried off in the direction of the toilets and then hovered outside. When Isaac appeared a few seconds later, I was shocked when he pulled me into the Men's toilets.

"Are you serious? What's up with the stockroom?" I asked.

"Shhhhh." He pulled me into a toilet cubicle before locking the door. "What is wrong with you? Why were you looking at me like that just then?"

"Like what?"

"You're obviously upset, is it because Abbie's here?"

"I tried calling you. Three times."

"Sorry, I left my phone upstairs."

"What were you doing in the back with her?"

He glowered at me, "Working."

"What did she whisper to you?"

"April, what the fuck are you doing?"

I frowned, confused as to why he was getting angry. "Um, right now I'm in a toilet cubicle with my secret boyfriend..."

He held his hand over my mouth. The reason soon became clear when I heard footsteps. We literally stared at each other for a whole minute straight until the person left and Isaac was satisfied that we were completely alone. He removed his hand from my mouth, "Don't taint what we have."

"Me?" I asked, shocked.

"Do you trust me?"

"Yes."

"Then don't ask me ridiculous questions ever again."

"Fuck you."

He raised his eyebrows, "Fuck me?"

"Yes, fuck you. I wouldn't ask ridiculous questions if I didn't have a reason to. Answer your fucking phone next time, employ a fucking sane person to be the manager of your bar next time, tell people to stop whispering in your fucking ear next time."
