Amedeo, Her Italian Billionaire(64)

By:Susan Westwood

He kept one hand on her stomach as he breathed heavily.

“You’re going to kill me Violet.”

“I think it is you that are going to kill me,” she said.

He laughed. “But I still wish you would marry me.”

Chapter14

Violet didn’t know where the flowers came from. They didn’t have a name on them. They’d made her smile, but the lack of card was creepy. Maybe the florist lost it. The flowers had to be from Amedeo. She was just surprised that he had sent them to work. He’d been low key about their relationship at work.

She need to stretch her legs anyway, so she walked up to his office. He was on the phone so she chatted with Madge for a minute.

“You’re glowing Violet. You must be having a boy.”

“You think so?”

“According to an old wives’ tale, boys give you beauty and girls take it away.”

“Interesting,” Violet said.

“Do you have a preference?” Madge said.

“No, I actually don’t. I just hope the baby is healthy.”

“That’s good way to be. You can’t be disappointed that way.”

“Are people disappointed?”

“Some are, but they are probably that way about everything.”

Violet didn’t think of herself as an optimist, but she also had low expectations. Maybe that’s why she wasn’t often disappointed.

“He’s off the phone. Go in,” Madge said.

Violet entered Amedeo’s office. He smiled at her. “Hello, beautiful. What brings you to my door?”

“I wanted to thank you for the flowers.”

A puzzled look came over his face. “What flowers?”

“The flowers I received today. In my office.”

He shook his head. “I didn’t send you any flowers. It didn’t have a card in it?”

“No, it didn’t. I just assumed it was you. Who else would send me flowers?”

“Maybe you have a secret admirer,” Amedeo said.

Violet shook her head. “I really doubt that.”

“I can’t be the only man who finds you attractive.”

She shrugged. “Either way, I doubt that it is a secret admirer. I think most people know about us. Even if we don’t make a big deal in the office, people can tell. We do arrive and leave together every day.”

He nodded. “What florist?”

“I don’t remember. I’ll go look and see if I can figure it out.”

He stood. “I’ll come down with you.”

They took the elevator together to her floor. He strode into her office, not noticing that some of the people in the department gave Amedeo a scared look. Had one of them done something wrong? He just owned the company. No reason to be afraid of him.

Amedeo studied the flowers. “Was there paper around them?”

Violet crossed her arms, leaning on her doorframe. “No. They appeared on my desk while I was in the bathroom.”

Amedeo looked out her door. He cleared his throat and everyone stopped what they were doing. “Did anyone see who delivered the flowers to Violet?”

“Somebody from maintenance came up with them,” someone volunteered.

“It was Bob. I saw him leave,” another said.

“Okay, thanks.”

He strode to her desk, sitting in her chair in that way he takes over every situation. She chose not to chafe. He was just making sure she was safe. Amedeo picked up her phone. He dialed.

“This is Amedeo. I need Bob in my office in fifteen minutes.”

He hung up. Because he was Amedeo, he had no doubt that his orders would be followed. Most of the time he wasn’t so heavy handed with her so she forgot that he was a man used to being in charge.

“I’ll be in my office. I’ll let you know what Bob says.”

“I think I need to be a part of this. It isn’t like you’re disciplining him,” Violet said.

“Okay. Suit yourself.”

He patted her tummy as he went by her out the office door. She smiled at that. He did that often. As if he were marking his territory. For some reason, it didn’t bother her. He was marking the baby, not her.

She followed him back to his office, settling on a chair with a view. Someone knocked on Amedeo’s door fifteen minutes later.

“Come in.”

An older man with blue pants and a blue shirt on, came into the office. His shirt said “Bob” on it. He was clearly terrified.

“You aren’t in any trouble, Bob,” Amedeo said.

The man relaxed. “Is there something I can help you with?”

“Miss Taylor here received flowers earlier. Did you bring them up to her office?” Amedeo said.

The man licked his lips. “Yes, I did. Was I not supposed to? It’s standard procedure.”
